In car video...suggestions please

Featured Replies

After the fun at Castle Combe decided that i'll be doing a few more track days. Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations for an in car specific video capture device

During the day I saw a variety of devices being used, especially by cars with passengers.

I use a standard MiniDv recorder - with antishake turned on - attached to the inside of a carefully cleaned windscreen by a powerful suction mount, mines home made but you can buy them from a variety of sources.

A proper video camera, whether tape, disc or card will always give a better picture than a hi-bred device. If you want to edit the video afterwards then a camera which records AVI file (DV) rather than HD is better as it is much easier to edit but proper HD video will always look better if you play it directly on a HD TV.

A decent MiniDV camera, Sony or Canon are best, can be bought from Argos clearance on Ebay for about £150 - Argos simply uses Ebay to clear last catalogues stock at up to 50% offf previous prices.
