532miles and at least 40 left

Featured Replies

Well as promised i said i would do a comparison for a long journey on my vRS.

I drove to Folkestone and back in a day (not for fun i had too :P)

On the way down i got stuck in the usual M25 traffic and the Dartford crossing traffic. However the journey back was relatively traffic free hence the better consumption on the way back. Majority of the journey was motorway however did have around 8 miles of round town driving and 20 of it was back roads. The overall consumption figure would have been better however on the way back on the last 7 miles of back roads i just had to upset some twonk in his VXR Astra:P

The whole journey was done on one tank of fuel (V-Power if anyone wants to know) and on the motorways as normal i sat with the cruise set at 80mph were traffic would allow. According to the maxidot i have 10 miles left but the min i have managed when it says 0 is 30 miles hence saying on the title i can do at least another 40.

Therefore if anyone is wondering wether a Remap will damage your consumption then here is the proof that you get better economy. This is with normal driving and not sitting at 55mph. Basically you can get almost 600miles from a vRS with "normal" daily driving. Obviously if you drive it like i did when upsetting the VXR then you will get around 350 :D

EDIT: Update i have managed to get 617.3 miles from the tank before filling up which is IMHO outstanding. Filled up today and put in 53.76 litres of fuel so may have got about 10 miles or so more. But i reckon its safe to say you can get 620miles from an vRS when driven normally. Which for a car with 300lb/ft of torque is great :D:D:D:D:D

Anyway here is the results for the journey down

Jesus :( - I so need to get my DPF off and get remapped. You're irritatingly close to my PD170 economy.

sweet!!!

now cant resist being a little selfish - is that triangle with an S , a compass?

How do I enable that on my octavia II L&K PD 105 - or is that a VRS Specific feature?

Yes it is.

How do I enable that on my octavia II L&K PD 105 - or is that a VRS Specific feature?

It's only available with an OEM sat nav like the RNS510 (Columbus). It also pushes turn instructions and the name of the current road to the MFD.

As Wega3K says its because i have a MFD3 (RNS510) in the car so it displays information on the Maxidot

Pretty impressive figures Carl. When you bolt the K04 on though that will change.;)

Yup i'll get even more if the guy who had the Leon (can't remember his name) with one on is anything to go by :D:D:D

Besides it's all about HOW you use the power. If done properly you can still be very very quick and yet be frugal at the same time. It does bug me when i get in a car with someone who bangs on about how quick the car is, how it handles etc then wheelspins every 2 secs because they haven't an igloo on how to use the power effectively.

I might do a journey one day and see what i get if i sit at 55mph all the way. Trouble is i'm addicted to the power surge :D:D:D

Carl, get a life buddy :P

It is impressive the economoy achievable with the Stage 2 software!

Carl, get a life buddy :P

Coming from the man who drives a French Skip :eek::eek: :D:D:D

Carl:thumbup:

The difference being I bought the skip for max economy, and even I don't drive like a saint to maximise it. You've got a beast of a motor, drive it properly god damn it!

And I do have a tuned 328 remember, so its not all shame :P

As i said if you read properly i do drive it properly as the VXR bloke found out :D. Just because i can get good fuel economy doesn't mean it isn't driven properly

A tuned 328:eek: Pah its 12 years old

Linford Christie was once a tuned athlete. I reckon i could beat him now and still consume less protein drinks :D:P

Never saw more than 300 miles to a tank with my vRS remapped or not!

Were you towing a caravan or something:rofl:

Crikey! Apparently I get about 55mpg from my 1.9TDI yet have to fill up at about 550 miles.

So what remap do you you have Mater.

Any other bolt-ons that might have helped?

You'll probably find that the display is ~10% optimistic (my PD105 was) and you've still got a good few miles in the tank after the miles left display goes to 0. I never tried going more than 30 miles after the display had gone to zero so I don't know how far you can push it.

If you've access to VAGCOM have a look at the following thread that I posted a few weeks ago

Mike

Thats the one i used to Accurise mine hence now i only get around 41-42 on a long run i used to get 45-46 according to the Maxidot beforehand

So what remap do you you have Mater.

Highlight my signature and all will be revealed ;)

Most i ever did was 48 miles but i had a 10 litre tank in the boot and i pulled over as soon as i got the first hiccup. Bewary though it took 3 goes with VCDS to clear the fault code that came up on the ECU. Can't remember what it said exactly but it was due to running out of fuel.

I have noticed that since the warmer weather is coming in that the fuel economy is getting better

I have just managed 492 miles from 47.2 litres, and that's all taxi town work

once the actual tank is full how much does the filler hold????

  • 2 weeks later...

So you're seriously saying you've gotten 52mpg average from a tank on a TFSI VRS just with sensible driving?

The mean for your car on spritmonitor is about 31mpg. Skoda's official combined figure is 37.7. Most people in PD105s don't even see 620 miles between fill ups. You should be contacting somebody in R&D in VAG to have a look at your engine. It's nothing short of a miracle.

Just noticed, in your fourth pic down, your fuel gauge needle is right at the bottom of the red at 532.4 miles, yet you say you did another 85 miles. At that same mileage of 532.4, your computer mpg is 39.9, so you'd have had to do 300mpg or something for those last 85 miles to get up to 52mpg for the tank.

I'm calling this as a wind-up!

EDIT - Just realised, 532.4 miles at 39.9 mpg isn't possible on one tank as it equates to 60.4 litres of fuel, when the car only has a 55 litre tank. Busted!

Implausible figures

Jesus - I so need to get my DPF off and get remapped. You're irritatingly close to my PD170 economy.

dont want to upset you with the figure i got on my 2.0 petrol then

mpg.jpg

no mods, no remap just a mixture of my IAM and SAFED training.

Yeah, but that's not a long term figure, that's for a single trip or sub-trip. You're not claiming implausible figures, i.e. 60.4 litres of fuel out of a 55 litre tank, then a further 85 miles done on a magical -1.4 gallons!

There must be something wrong with my vRS,

I only managed 47.8 for the last 1000 miles in my Roomster, but that is attributed to my leaden foot and making the most of the limited performance available :)

Impressive again Carl! I do too much urban driving really, but nice to know it's possible, even when running remapped power. I tend to sit at 80 on cruise for mway routes, so will be interesting to see when I get a longer trip in

Steve

I have just filled up after 330 miles, and I do long runs.

The most I have ever managed is 400 miles on a tank :(

Sod it, if I want economy I drive SWMDO's car......
