Engine Flush..................

Featured Replies

When changing the oil is it safe to use an Engine flush on a PD 1.9 130 BHP diesel engine (vrs).....Thanks :)

Yes, as long as you follow the instructions. In general you drain the old oil, fill with the flushing oil, run engine at fast idle but do not drive. The flushing oil is very thin and contains detergents to clean engine internals and will not give protection if you drive the car.

You can also buy an addittive which is added to your existing oil and you can safely drive the car for a few days whilst the additive cleans the engine but is a bit laborious and does not give as good results.

I would only do a engine flush if the previous service history is unknown or the wrong oils had been used or if I suspect sticking valves/valvegear rattle.

Not recommended on any PD injector engine. Cam lobes for PD injector rockers do not like running even briefly in flushing oils. Only worth the risk if there is heavy sludge.
