Daily light enabled on fog lights

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've searched in forums and I couldn't find any topic relevant to my issue.

Just got my hands on new Octavia 2.0 DSG L&K and when I started it instead daily lights to be enabled on normal light they are enabled on lights for fog.

In dealership they've told that this is new thing from all VW vehicles, which is completely new info for me; and I suspect it is new thing for policemen.

Does anybody knows more about this and possibility to disable this 'feature'?

Thanks!

The faclift Octavia has 2 bulbs in the front foglight, presumably the second smaller bulb is for daylight running. The Ford Galaxy and/or S-Max already do this, BMWs and Audis do it too and have done for ages. Whether its in the main headlight or the fog light doesnt appear to make any difference.

Daylight running lights are set to become law.

dstev2000, thank you for info.

What is the reason for bringing "down" daily lights by VW? Is it possible to "save" main lights, which are Xenon.

Generally, if I switch them back (to Xenon) will that shorten life of Xenon bulb? How are they compared to "normal" bulbs which I had on pre-facelifted Octavia II?

Regards!

Xenon lights are impractical to dim for daylight running, this is only possible via LEDs (as seen on most Audi cars these days) or normal incandescent/halgoen bulbs.

I am not 100% sure but all of the cars I see with daylight running lights in the UK at least are low output lights. The main headlights would be too bright for this and the lower output saves a little energy too.

Xenon bulbs are totally different to halogen, they use a high voltage to 'strike' and arc across two electrodes in a small capsule filled with inert gases and metal salts. They give out much more light, use less power and last much longer than halogen bulbs, its safe to say they will last at least 50% of the cars life.

My car has covered 86,000 miles on its original xenon bulbs and would probably do 3-4 times the mileage before they pop.

The DLR bit is a rule in many EU countries already, and will be mandatory in new vehicles soon.

DLR will only affect cars from i beleive next year onwards, cars made before then will not need DLR's. As for xenons they use about 35% less power than normal halagon.

Yup, but some makers like VAG are doing it as standard now as good practice.

and ch@vs

A lot of new model cars are running DLRs now - Insignia, Mk6 Golfs, Superb II, etc, etc. I think it's a good idea in some ways, bad in others.

A lot too also have the dash pod illuminated at all times.

The amount of times I've almost forgotten to turn the lights on the Works Mondy :(

I'm always surprised at how bright the white front LEDs are in current Audis - very attention-catching. And presumably they draw very little current. Would like to see them in all current cars (suspect any add-on strips are going to be pretty puny....).

Both my previous Vauxhalls have done that too - at least they had auto lights which meant driving with no lights was pretty impossible.
