Octy 1.6 MPI: Need help urgently please!

Featured Replies

Hiya,

I am coming back to the forum after a long time. Need help regarding some issues in my car, have spent a lot over all, but still things are not happening right. And then, thought, its better to get help from experienced guys in the forum, maybe this would get solved with your expert knowledge, all advice is indespensible :)

I have an 05 Octavia 1.6 MPI, which drives sluggish overall, it is like I m forcing it to speed up. For now the main issue is that the Airbag warning light keeps coming on, from time to time. This has happened 2-3 times since december and remains on until I get it reset at the local garage. According to my observation, it usually comes on the day after there is a significant drop in temperature in the previous night/ day. It has also come up, while driving at cruise speed or slowing down slightly without applying brake.

Have got it checked and the guy at the garage thinks it could be due to various issues and hasn't been able to pin point any specific cause yet. He thinks possibly either the Battery /alternator or both are creating the problem.

He thinks battery is ok for now but will need replacing couple of months down the line. Regarding the alternator, he has observed that it is generating more current then desired and does not stabilise at a voltage and keeps fluctuating.

Got the following error codes at the time of service.

engine

16555 - Poss causes - Intake/Exhaust Leak, AIR System, MAF Sensor, Fuel Pressure Pump/Injector(s),EVAP Canister Purge Valve,HO2S

17511

electrics

00979

002395

airbag

00588

Waiting for your expert inputs, Has anyone had same/similar issues? Pls revert back soon before I plunge myself into a deep expenditure and get battery or alternator or both changed. Also, have started using high octane petrol, to induce better fuel performance, but that has not proved really helpful. Can anyone shed light to resolve some, if not all the problems, please?

Thanks in advance for all your help, guidance and feedback.

Cheers,

grammatical mistake

These two faults probably explain the low power situation. From the 17511 code, it looks like the 02 sensor (lambda sensor) may be failing. However, this could be because of an air leak in the engine (air is getting into the inlet manifold without passing through the MAF). This will result in the engine running the incorrect mixture and bad 02 reading (also lower power and higher fuel consumption).

17511 - P1103 O2 Sensor Heating Circ.,Bank1-Sensor1 Output too Low

16555 - Poss causes - Intake/Exhaust Leak, AIR System, MAF Sensor, Fuel Pressure Pump/Injector(s),EVAP Canister Purge Valve,HO2S

Electrics:

00979 - Lamp for Low Beam; Right (M31) 010 - Open or Short to Plus

02395 - Parking Light Right Front (M3)

Odd faults here. I presume your lights are working? Could be a dodgy earth on your front right light cluster. Any accident damage there? Give the wiring and copnnectiosn a look-see.

Airbag (found all this on briskoda)

00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N95): Resistance too High

Possible Symptoms

* Airbag Warning Light active

Possible Causes

* Wiring from/to Airbag Igniter Driver Side (N95) faulty

* Coil Spring with Slip Ring (F138) faulty

* Airbag Igniter Driver Side (N95) faulty

Possible Solutions

* Check Wiring from/to Airbag Igniter Driver Side (N95)

* Check Coil Spring with Slip Ring (F138)

* Check Airbag Igniter Driver Side (N95)

Hope that helps.

Hiya,

Thanks for your detailed post. The electrics was due to failed headlamp, etc. has been an old fault, all the lights r working ok for now.

Just remembered there is a pipe going from the air filter to the engine which is loose too.

I am currently more bothered about the airbag warning light which keeps coming back every few days until I get it reset.

All suggestions welcome.

Thanks....:)
