le badge

Featured Replies

I will be requesting a replacement badge from my dealer, although I am pretty happy with the "stealth" look of the LE badge once the red letters are removed:

Billy that is a Battle of Malta Spitfire - 40th Anniversary flight to Malta, took a photo of it a few years back at a Duxford show - Flying legends. Nicest Spit I have ever seen. Nearly as nice as my LE. :P

lol ther is one thing, i want the sound they make, the merlin engine makes sweet music,

the lancaster is nice to listen to aswell with 4 of the beasts.

Beedie, what is the best way it to clean off the adhesive residue once you removed the old badge?

Beedie:

Quick pic as it's getting dark but i was out detailing the new car and had a chisel to hand so decided to throw on the new badge.

Process was:

wipe down surrounding paintwork

carefully line up some masking tape to ensure you put the new badge back on in same place (level and square)

Get chisel and clean microfibre cloth and wrap point of chisel in cloth!

Slip point of chisel under edge of badge and pull towards you. (dont try to push the chisel into the adhesive.)

you'll probably just stretch the adhesive but once you;ve pulled the badge far enough grab ithwith your fingers and get rid of the chisel

pull the badge off.

clean up the adhesive residue.

peel backing off new badge and line up with masking tape

stick it down

peel off masking tape.

stand back and admire the rear end of your car how it should be.

I picked most of it off with my fingers then used Autosmart TARDIS (basically an industrial strength glue remover thats safe on paint)

Heres the pic

Pouring hot water over the badge to loosen the glue, and then sliding some dental floss backwards and forwards in a "sawing" motion behind should work. You might snap a few lengths of the floss before you're all the way through, but probably a bit safer than the chisel/cloth option, just in case!!

I just removed the sticky stuff with some of my normal polish (car-lack) and it came off fine with a bit of elbow grease:D

Guys I received my replacement badge for the LE, 2 things have stopped me attaching it to the back panel :

1) I am scared I co@k it up and make a mess of boot, I’m a big scaredy cat I am.

2) I have also grown fond of the “stealth” look black badge. So wish to keep it on the vehicle.

But I have found somewhere else I wish to put the badge, on the front grille above the VRS badge, this leaves me a couple of problems, how do I attach a sticky backed logo onto the grille slats? Anyone got an idea of how to attach it? The badge is designed for a flat surface, I’d need some type of fixing through the grille at VRS badge to adhere/stick to the back of the badge..A weird one.

What is your view on how it would look fellas?

Is the badge still black with red lettering?

My new badge is still black with red lettering, I sprayed a few coats of lacquer on this one, just in case the red letters do try to peel off again.

Is the badge still black with red lettering?

Yep. not as thick as the old one I reckon.

Is it just a case of sticking it on the grill slats using the self adhesive back and some superglue to strenghten it up?

Not sure how else you could do it - how is the VRS badge fixed?

Chaps I popped the replacement badge above the VRS badge on the grille, stuck no problem. The right hand slant lines up prefectly with the S end of the VRS badge.

Small tip I was given when I got the car, when I polsihed my car (Autoglym Super Resin Polish) I was advised do the wheels at the same time, this coating makes it harder for the break dust to adhere to the alloys, still take a while to clean though, due to the number of spokes, my advice is quick elbow grease with a sponge, then finish off nook & crannies with a toothbrush. Toothbrush handy for cleaning the calipers too. I realise I sound obsessive but I aint really, just like taking care of the car.

Get an EZ Detail brush

Still takes a while to do them, but this brush is great

yeah i must say i clean my calipers when i wash the the wheels i have been using autoglym clean wheels but had read that you can damage the alloy if you use it to regularly so will polish them next time i have cleaned them so thanks for tip

There is only one 'safe' way to remove a badge.

1. Heat up with heat gun (not too close) or hairdryer.

2. Use dental floss or fishing line to prise of badge and adhesive.

3. Clean residue off with Autosmart Tardis or Autoglym Tar and Glue.

4. Repolish area and wax / seal.

Then have a nice debadged look.
