They all think I'm plod

Have noticed a strange but funny theme developing on my travels.

I have a '58 plate Octy vRS hatch in white.

I have noticed that my appearance in the rear view of many cars provokes an almost immediate dive for the inside lane and a clear path for me

The faster I drive the quicker people appear to move out of my way

In fact, on a trip top Scotland over Easter I saw a Lamborginhi Giardo convertable in bright yellow flying up behind me on the M6 toll. As he got within a couple of hundred yards of my tail he braked heavily and dived into the middle lane and then sat there for the next five miles or so. Hilarious.

Thankyou Skoda.................a bonus I wasn't expecting

it was like that when i first got mine, a hi viz jacket on the parcel shelf was good one too. Might have to invest in a second interior mirror for watching the kids in the back too ;) clean car also works too.

£6 for the mirror at Halfords, and the Hi-Viz vest works great hanging on the back of the front seat using the headrest poles to keep it there.

To be honest it's a bit of a 'mare if you're not 'pressing on' though, i found drivers overtake then immediately pull in front of you at bang on 70mph.

Three letters.....

When I first got my green Mk1 L&K, I could never understand why people got out of my way in the dark. Think it was the white shirt and tie and the HID's that did it.

Impressive Pretty Octavia, i know and they all slow down to look at it as there is never a cop car around for them to look at so they look at mine instead

That would be an interesting shaped book print left for the IPO ;)

:rofl::rofl: I like it! :rofl::rofl:

Hmm I've also had the opposite which is cars in front suddenly slowing to the legal limit!

Which is established by case law to require you to both look and behave like a PO at close range, for certain specified purposes. Not just to look vaguely like a PO from 200 yards away. I'm sure you know the details better than I do, but "owning a white car with a hi-vis jacket in it" is not an offence!

It's all good fun though, paticulary when I "forget" to take my shoulder slides off..............;)

When feeling mischievious it is soooo tempting to drive home with my HI-VI still on:rolleyes:

Just get some amber LED's fitted they are legal and clear when not switched on.

blue lights are legal as long as while on the road the lamps are removed or they are not wired up

Black polo shirt and body warmer works wonders for me. As do the xenons and roof bars:rofl:

Its annoying when the ***** slow down and block my change to lane 2 to avoid the obligatory slow moving HGV :thumbdwn:

I found that an exceptionally clean race blue vRS does the trick...especially as it's usually in cruise mode on the motorway. I can see other drivers thinking "what have we got here then" and as other posters have said, slowing down, realising and then zooming off into the distance. I've not tried the hi-vis thing but I might as I use one for work. Small thngs seem to amuse....

Nothing is allowed on a car that resembles a blue light. Nothing at all. Even if they are clear LED's, if they flash blue you can get done. Even if you have a standard light with blue lens with the bulb removed you can still get done. Be careful. Stick to amber.

Given the amount of cars (and indeed trucks) that I see in north Hampshire and Berkshire that have blue LEDs on/in, it's not something that the local constabularies seem to enforce. Either that or they're fighting a battle which they're losing badly.

Well the 'clear when off' is intersting - does nothing for me. Mine aren't obvious unless you look through the grille, I certainly wouldn't have them omn the outside anywhere, so how do others spot them?

By the way the Construction and Use Regs make it clear that blue lights may not be fitted, whether they work is not important and what point is a clear led that is blue when lit if it isn't wired in? Why not just put some dimpled perspex on a metal plate, if you want to be such a charva?

ive had exactly the same reacion. I got a mk 1 54 plate in black. i have ppl come hooning it up behind on motorway and then slam on the anchors, and even had one guy at the lights the other week (on a red light) look in his rear view, then bomb it off through the red!!! i detect no insurance! lol. had thought about a message board for the rear window but got no pennies :( as i work as a driver i wear my hi-viz to and from work and boy do ppl poop themselves hahahaha . makes me not want to transfer my private plate when i have those reactions, soo funny . . tho sometimes ppl do like 15 in a 40 and that annoys me:(

god bless skoda! BOOM!

Winter time is best once you have washed the car and youre one of the only few clean cars on the road. As for IPO my hi viz jacket has to stay in the car for work as im not allowed on premises without it and in case i forget/lose my regular one i have a spare ;)

Sorry but I find it abit sad when people wear their Hi-Viz when driving. If you need it for a job just put it on when jump out the car.

Why don't I get this reaction?! I'm actually a copper, frequently travel to and from work in shirt/tie in my clean race blue Octy vRS and the best I get is people trying to race me, not get out of my way!

I've thought about getting a couple of traffic cones and a high vis jacket a number of times to bung in the boot. Obviously I'd be from a poor Police force though given that I'm driving a Mk1 Octy lol.
