Corrosion Warning - Eibach Springs

Featured Replies

Never thought I'd be reporting this, but had the front wheels off today and had a chance to look closely at my Eibachs (20,000 miles on). On both springs there is a small area of corrosion (about an inch long) on the lower surface of the spring at the point where it rests in the lower 'cup' of the McPherson strut.

I presume the spring is rubbing against the cup, which has destroyed the powder coating. Why Eibach don't sleeve the first couple of coils I don't know. Anyway, you have been warned!

My original springs had done this, on the top mounts side though.

Always wondered what the clunking was whilst reversing off of my drive on full lock.

This is a Department of Transport safety requirement implemented by Skoda UK (similar to the dong telling you to belt up) to avoid your non-compliance with the following Highway Code instruction:

201

Do not reverse from a side road into a main road. When using a driveway, reverse in and drive out if you can.

HTH?

HaHa! Dont live on a main road though....

I'll give you a tenner if you can find me a set of springs that don't corrode. Even the plastic covering wears through in no time.

What about the H&R Gold Plated ones?

I would be gutted if they wore through
