locking wheel nut

Featured Replies

Help please - I took my 2004 Octavia in for a service on Saturday and dealer was also to clean up rear brakes and change tyres. I am advised that the locking wheel nut was corroded and could not be removed; they have completely wrecked the head of this. In pulling the wheel off the stub axle they have pulled the innards of the wheel bearing out leaving the housing on the stub axle. I am told that they will have to heat up the locking wheel nut threaded part to remove it from the wheel, they will have to angle grind the bearing housing off - and it is suggested I am liable for this as it was a corrosion issue.

?Am I being taken or is there any logic in what's happening? :rotz:

The four wheel bolts came off OK, but the locking wheel nut was corroded or have they damaged the locking nut? Was this at a Skoda dealer?

Yes this was a Skoda dealer - they say only the locking but was corroded.

So they're saying that they expect you to pay for repairing the wheel bearing etc because their staff didn't have the sense to drill or grind a corroded locking nut rather than use brute force? ^3
