Dented sill - repairable cost?

Featured Replies

Dented the sill on the works car by manoeuvring in a tight space in a yard, and clipped a curb on a tight swing when pulling away very slowly and watching scraping a van on the other side

Speed wasnt a factor as didnt even register on the speedo, more the cars own weight. Could this be repaired easily, and any idea of costs and methods?

We have to pay for all damage ourselves, so if it can be done to a reasonable standard by a mobile dent repair firm, then I'll do it that way.

i put a vertical dent into my Fabia's sill when the jack slipped. A VAG bodyshop fixed it for about £250 IIRC.

Watching this thread closely, someones jacked my Octy Mk2 up at the rear corner and pushed the lip up into the sill :(

Yikes, was hoping less than £250 :(

probably less elsewhere. The bodyshop I used aren't cheap.

If it's not serious then I'd suggest a good filler and paint job which should come in under £100, which includes a proper paint job on the affected area.

FWIW £250 sounds like a whole new sill and painting, of certainly is more than that work costs on say a fiesta etc.

If a dent man can get access behind the dent, most of it could be pushed out and then finished with a minimum of filler and paint.

If there is no access, a body shop can weld pegs onto the dent and use a special puller to grip them and pull the dent out. A similiar DIY method is to drill some small holes in the dented panel, screw in some self tapping screws, attach a slide hammer to each one in turn and pull the dent that way. Finish off with a bit of weld over the holes, fill and paint.

Luckily the damaged area is low down and not in the normal line of sight, so the standard of paint finish required is not so critical, even better if there is as standard a layer of factory ripply stone chip protector there.

ive heard of people drilling and using rivets to pull the dints out also.

Thanks all.

I'll get some people to have a look.

On second thoughts, i think using self tappers would probably be better. Would be gutted if any of the rivets used to pull the dint out. Ended up in the sill after trying to drill them out.
