As it stands, I dont know squat about the unit until I get to see it, and read up

Sure you will find out plenty about it on the internet, besides you can let us all know as it sounds like a few people on here have been looking at them already..........:D

Yours got the 19's on it?

Phaeton is 5x112. It's the Touareg that's different, at 5x130 - because of the tie-up with Porsche and the Cayenne, and Porsche obviously won the wheel battle by using their standard rather than one of VW's!

Just had a call from the dealer. Apparently, the gearbox has gone into Limp mode, and wont go passed 3rd. Turning off, and back on clears it, but somethings going on.

Its now off to a VW Phaeton specialist to be looked at. Looks like I aint gettin it on Saturday. :(

Damn! Ah well, on the bright side - this has happened before you took over ownership!

Steve

What he said!

Hopefully it's nothing too bad!

This should be a beast once fettled. How much do these go for: V10 of course.

I'll be contacted after the weekend. Its going to the main delers in Maidstone who are VW Phaeton specialist.

Turns out it happened about a week ago, when one of his lacky's took it out on a test drive. He came back of holiday today and said "oh forgot to mention........"

Turns out it did it that once, and hasnt done it since and it only did it from cold. Who knows if the lacky didnt rag it immediataly from getting in it.

I test drove it from cold and it was fine. So i'm hoping its the car saying "Stop ragging me" or a sensor of some kind going faulty.

Either way, the dealer told me that since he is selling it on behalf of a multi-millionaire, it will be sorted, regardles whats wrong with it before I pick it up..

Kudos to the dealer for letting me know now, before sending me on my way with a car that has faults. He hasnt even taken a deposit off me either.........

Whatever's caused it, best it's looked at now - so yes, all credit to the supplying dealer

Steve

Sounds like your off the mark already but first on the list should be suspension and wheels.........:D

Standard shockers are 5k a set Simon

But he knows that if there's any problems it'll be going straight back to him so no point ****ing off a customer before he's even got the car.

The SoGA will be far better protection than any 3rd party warranty for the first few months.

That's very, very cool.

What's the name of the dealer your buying from? and where abouts in Kent are they?

Just being nosey :D

Crossroads Motors....

Why would you replace standard shockers with standard shockers...............

Fitting 'Air' would be cheaper at around 2k..............

the best thing to do with this is get it mapped as they map the gearbox so it works better sometime it can go into limp mode when giving it beans as it doesnt change fast enough but will once mapped:thumbup:

i did warn you about there boxes they are terrible lol:O

nice motor just make sure its all 100% before you drive off the forecourt

Paid full price for a RAC inspection on the car. Apart from stone chips, which I was aware of, the report has come back on the car with no reason not to buy the motor as its in very good condition...

Crossroads Motors....

They always seem to be Nice people to stop at and have a look around, stopped there and wondered around lots of times as i used to deliver to the pub down the road.

**UPDATE**

Turns out the gearbox soleniod has gone intermittenly faulty, so is being replaced under warrenty with a VW reconditoned gearbox. This should be done this week, and I'll have the car by next weekend all being well. 20 hours it takes to do this work!!!

I'll let you all know what happens.......

Crikey. Bet that's not cheap. Sounds like a good dealer though.

** ANOTHER UPDATE**

VW Dealership (Canterbury) are now refusing to honour the warranty repair and want to charge, otherwise they are refusing to do it. Because the soleniod is intermittent, they jst want to send the car on it way, knowing its faulty. So I'm stuck as it stands. The dealer I'm buying it off has had everything done on the car I requested, just this lousey gearbox issue. So its now between the guy/company who still own the Phaeton (Crossroads are selling on behalf of them) and VW to battle it out. Eitherway, Crossraods cars and myself are caught in the middle with nowhere to go.

Im not too bad as I'll just be out of pocket on an RAC inspection. Crossroads have had new tyres fitted, paid for MOT and Road Tax, touched up the paint and also had one of the blown plastic panels between the B-trim replaced. And also had a full valet done. Basically, the car was in a position for me to pick up before this issue occured.

Dont know whats going to happen next. The car is in Canterbury, with no one willing to touch it. ********...

RANT OVER

gearbox problems i did warn you!!!!!!!!!!

good luck mate hope it gets sorted:thumbup:

That's not good.

Myself i would be worried that the gearbox could play up again even if it is "fixed"

Would think long and hard about cutting my loses and finding something else.

Im certainly thinking about it.

As long as the Gearbox is fully replaced as has been suggested, with the full parts and labour warrently also being supplied/covered by VW, then I'll have it as the rest of the car has been certified as in excellent condition via an RAC inspection.

Otherwise, the car has a known fault and would not want to be any garage selling it. S.O.G. act would rip them apart if sold on in its current condition.

Oh dear :(

Even if it's an intermittent fault would it not log a fault code? Certainly a very unhelpful outlook by the VW dealer, whichever way you look at it.
