brakes sticking on!!!

Featured Replies

Hi can any one give me some advice?. The glow plug was flashing on my Fabia 1.9Tdi so I checked the brake lights like it said on other threads,NO brake lights! so I had the the brake light switch changed and the brakes are now sticking on and causing so much friction they smoke. I spoke with the mechnaic who changed the switch he said the 2 were not connected?! however I took the switch back out and this freed the brakes up. I have since put in another new switch and renewed the brake pads, however the brakes are still "sticking" on slightly. The only way to free them is to press down hard on the brake pedal

Hmm sounds like the switch that activates the brakes as opposed to the one that activates the lights might be a bit funny, but I don't know enough about it. Might be worth talking to a main dealer if you have not already.

I was told of a similar problem by a Vauxhall owner. He had a sport switch replaced, and every time he hit it, it would turn the hazards on. He told me that in his case the switch hadn't been properly tuned in. Apparently, electronic switchgear needs to be tuned in via an oscilloscope, to the correct frequency for the function it performs. Dunno if it applies to Skoda?

Surely you'd do that when making the part since every sport switch for an astra etc is going to send that same message to the control system of the car?

You'd think so, but I wouldn't take anything for granted these days. Like I said, I'm just passing on what I was told.

Does the brake lights work ok after the switch was changed? If not, the switch was not installed correct. Maybe the mech pushed the brake pedal when he installed the switch? If the brake light operate like they ought to after exchanging the switch, the sticking brakes and the change of the brake light switch is not related..

That would be my guess.

Hope you get your car sorted!
