Sister in Laws facebook has been hacked help

Featured Replies

My little sister in laws facebook has been hacked in the sense that someone has managed to get her passwords and hotmail details and whoever it is is telling all her freinds on facebook to ring her and also putting stupid pictures on her profile like pies and kebabs.

Everytime she tries to reset her password it just offers to send the password reset to her hotmail account (which had the same password) and as such she cant get acess to that.

What can she do, we have been to the police and they are not bothered as long as it isnt hatefull or obscene etc and the computer shops say they cant trace the ip address of whoever it is that is doing it as its all web based stuff like facebook and hotmail and not much is held on the actual persons pc etc.

I would love to find the person doing it but dont know a way of getting her account back when some skumbag has got the upperhand.

any ideas guys would be great...bloody kids and the internet

Go into her FB profile and change her registered email address to something else? TBH though, it's a fairly lame attack if her FB account password hasn't been changed and the registered email address as well.

Or goto Hotmail and hit the 'can't remember password' link and answer the secret question to change the Hotmail password. But again, it's an amateur attack if the the secret question/answer hasn't already been changed.

Depends if it's somebody doing it as a prank/joke - or something a little more sinister.

We cant get onto her profile settings as they have changed the password and the gets have changed the secret question thing it was the name of your first pet now its mothers birthplace

no matter what we do we cant get round it, we thought we might have been able to do it this way by selecting reset password and entering another email address where she can get the email but it says that facebook has sent your password reset info to the email specified in your user account which is the one she cant get into aswell.

Email abuse@ hotmail and facebook.

Let me guess, the abusive ex?

Yup always setup an alternative email address, as any changes will generate a security alert to your alternative email, and a link to click if you didnt change anything.

And if BF/GF/SWMBO etc knows your details and you fall out, change passwords and questions straight away!

When my Hotmail was stolen ages ago (was due to giving away my mothers maiden name which I didn't realise was the secret question when I did as I set up the account ages before) - I contacted hotmail through the appropriate channel and they never replied, and subsequent requests for help were not replied to - I can only suspect that because I set up the account ages ago they could not help as they had not asked all the details.

Whatever happens it's probably best for her to contact everyone who matters warning them her account has been hacked and to ignore anyone contacting her with it. Whoever the idiot is doing it should hopefully get bored quickly.

Secret questions are crap. They can normally be guessed by someone who know you or you can find them out by digging deep enough in public records.

Fill them with false data you'll remember.

You have a PM with a suitable link in it.

I have not used the program in question, but I believe it should do the job

Sorry if this is late,

When growing up I used to do this all the time to people. If you are still stuck and need a way around it - please do send me a PM.

(I have since grown up and put my skills to better use).

Thanks Rob I have sent you a pm, we managed to get the facebook one shut down but they are still using her messenger to de-grade her.

dont know how they do this sort of thing but i thought you only see things like this in the movies.

but they are still using her messenger to de-grade her.

The random person who stole my messenger account was telling people I was a paedophile and various such things. They stole one person's account then used that to pretend to be them in order to steal mine.

I say firstly if you haven't done already fire off an e-mail/text message/quick phone call to all the people who matter letting them know the account has been hacked and not to talk to anyone using your account. Only other thing you can do really is contact hotmail using the link on their site to get the account back (I tried this but they never replied). Besides, at the end of the day if any of her friends believe the words of some idiot who stole her account and has an obsession with pies and kebabs, probably best not keeping them as friends much longer. They should get bored soon enough when no-one talks to them. They only talk to the hacker as they originally believed it to be the original user of the account.
