New Mobile

Featured Replies

So Currently on O2 and paying £25 a month for 600 minutes, 1000 texts and unlimited calls sat/sun/mon (long weekends).

My phone has started to die horribly after about 2-3 years (N73) so I'm looking at a new phone.

I like the look of the N86 and N97 but neither of these appear to be out at anything approaching a sensible price.

I also like the idea of the E75 as hopefully it would be a bit more reliable.

So what with wanting to stay with nokia what are anyones thoughts.

In terms of contracts I'm absolutely not interested in hearing anything Orange have to say after the worst service ever a few years back.

So O2, Vodaphone, T-Mobile.

Unsure about 3 as I've heard a lot of bad things about them and also their coverage used to be awful.

Thoughts, advice and anywhere you can buy a phone on contract or stand alone and I'll run my current deal for a good price.

Yesterday, T-Mobile contacted me about switching back to them, offered to buy me out of the last few months of my O2 contract. I am a pretty heavy call user as all my business calls go through the mobile and they offered me

£35

1500 Minutes X network

Free calls to landlines 24/7

Unlimited Texts

Unlimited Data

Unlimited WiFi

Free G1 Android

5ppm for outgoing calls when roaming into Europe and USA (incoming were free).

I only switched from them for a Piephone 3G and am seriously considering taking up the offer and going back to them. The Data / WiFi was subject to a fair usage policy of 8GB per month

My Average O2 bill is £70 per month and they **** rape you on roaming charges (which I am doing a lot of right now)

T-Mobile would get my vote........ anyone want a Piephone 3G 16GB :)

Yeah T-Mobile had a nice deal in for me @£35 too, so I was thinking of combining that with an E75 and seeing how it goes.

Only thing is that the T-Mobile coverage used to be a lot weaker than o2/vodaphone when I was last on them and I'm wondering if this has improved.

I have just swapped from T-mobile to O2 because their coverage was a lot better near where I live and work. Generally O2 seems a lot better signal wise everywhere I've been. I struggled to get any signal at all in my house before now I can get a HSPDA inside which is pretty good going I think.

Hmm what a pain in the **** :(

The 18 months contracts with data included looked extremely tempting.

I'm on 3 and find coverage Ok, not had any trouble with service either.

We had a T-Mobile contract for work phones, here in Cornwall network

coverage was appaling, can't comment on O2 tbh

Can only speak as I find, but I'll renew my 3 contract:)

Edit, I think 3 'piggyback' other networks now, hence better coverage, but I may be wrong

I moved to Tmobile from Orange after being with Orange since they started.

Bagged Flex deal for £35/month with £200 of allowence to use as you wish on texts etc, and free unlimited data. Signal strength seems much better than Orange, and that was strong. Get true HSPDA speeds too, unlike Orange.

Calls and texts are 20ppm, pictures at 50ppm. For me I never used all my Orange Dolphin 35 minutes and never sent more than 300 texts a month so was ideal. Web on the go for emails etc (using Yahoo Go) is what I use most.

What are your actual usage habits for calls and texts?

I tend to use 500 minutes, 500-600 texts and a good number of minutes in the long weekends too.

After having several nokia phones in the last 10 or so years I now have an E71, probably the best phone I have ever owned. Much much better than the n95 I have from work.

Battery will last 3 days with moderate usage, 2 days with heavier usage and a constant data connection for email.

Regarding what network you choose, that will depend on where you live and work and how important it is to get a signal in as much places as possible while you travel around.

Personally, I have always found Voda and o2 to have better coverage out in the sticks, this is because the 900mohz signal primarily used by Voda and o2 will travel further than 1800 (Orange and Tmobile) and has better in building penetration. Orange are very close behind in my opinion and obviously will be better in some locations than o2 or voda. T-mobile comes in at the rear. Cant really comment on Three as once out of their own 3g signal, you roam onto Orange for Voice and SMS as Three dont have their own 2g network. They are partnered with T-mobile but I beleive that is only for sharing of 3g services.

Regarding data speeds over 3G, this will vary location to location, it will even vary on a daily basis at your house. It will depend on how many people are using data in your area at any one time. The 3g signal itself will also vary as data usage increases. Personally I find voda and Orange to be very good for speed and coverage, maybe Orange has the edge on coverage and they use EDGE, voda do not use EDGE.

As I said, I will never ever use orange again no matter how good a deal they offer because of the appalling customer service.

using 500 mins and 600 texts you would probably bee good with t-mobile flext 35. Phone wise, Vodafone now have the HTC magic which is a more rounded G1 & without the keyboard (you get a touchscreen software based one instead), but I'm not sure what their phone deals are.

Now to find out if T-Mobile coverage has improved in my local area.

FWIW I really do want to stay with Nokia for the phone.

I'm currently deciding on my contract.

Flext35 12 month tariff (being phased out for 18/24 month ones)

orig line rental £35 a month now its £15.

do I get a new phone and have the line rental bumped back up or £10 off my current line rental?

Tmobile have a signal promise thingy.

As explained to me when I switched, if you find within the first 14 days the signal's not what you expected, to can terminate and pay only what you've used (allowence recinded). It's why I was advised, as was SWMBO when we both ditched Orange, to be totally happy before porting our number (or wait until the 14 days has expired) as porting cancels the promise.

Edit - Orange and Tmob now mast share quite a bit, so signal is as good as Orange IME.

O2 have come up with an even better deal, so I'm thinking of buying a Nokia E51 to use until a phone I desire comes out.

It's a business oriented phone, designed for making calls and doing it well, so has anybody any experience with this phone before I order one?

Thanks

I am on O2, I have Simplicity Sim only, 600 mins, 1200 texts, and 'unlimited' browsing £20 per month.

Only downside is that I have to buy a phone from flea bay, however, by the time you can get out of the 18 / 24 month contract it was cheaper to buy the fone ( Nokia 5800 Music express) & i can pick whichever phone i want :)

The deal is prety similar to yours and your reasoning is the same as mine regarding being tied in for 18 months.

E51 seems to be the way to go right now.

Many of my familly ditched Orange because of bad customer service they are now all on o2

I am the only one on Virgin so when i use my mins i get stung for cross network charges so seriously thinking about moving to o2

Is it right that Virgin is T Mobile?

Virgin piggy backs T-Mobile, but is not T-Mobile.

Just to note, I've purchased an E51 unlocked and will be reviewing my supplier subject to them bothering to get back to me or not. Failure to get back to me, means I move networks.

I'm on Vodafone with a Blackberry Storm, the phone is awesome and the package isn't bad.

£44 month for unlimited data, 600 mins 3000 txts

Quite expensive if you use no-where near 3000 texts. Other networks are offering similar, with more realistic text quota, for well under £40/month. ;)

That is expensive - just got the new HTC magic on Vodafone 600mins,unlimited texts and web for £30pm.

The magic is superb btw.
