the old air con clutch chestnut

Featured Replies

During the change of the aux belt today I checked the air con compressor as the ai con has never worked for me.

As suspected the clutch is no longer there but luckily the splines are still there, nice and sharp and deep :)

Does anyone know the part number for the clutch plate itself? Also, if i fit it is the A/C likely to finction (assuming the system isn't leaking and the seals aren't degraded after a few years of no use)?

cheers

Hi, refitted the clutch to my car as it was found sitting on the undertray during a service, don't know if it works yet, problem is its so cold outside i cant tell the difference between on and off. i suspect it isn't working.

if you try to refit it without removing the compressor, one of the splines is bigger than the rest so it fits in one position only.

i understand that it is suppose to be shimmed to stop it dragging on the pully.

best of luck

do you know exactly what washers/shims/nuts that i need to refit it?

cheers

M8 nyloc nut, don't know about shims/washers, try googling it and see what you get.

Clutch Part no: 1J0 820 811 H (as taken from the original box)

Was really lucky and found a brand new one on ebay for £50 (dealer price aprox £200). This was 2-3 years ago.

Had mine fitted by independant garage without removing compressor (so no regas). Garage said he had to rethread the spindle or something. Cost £80 labour.

Compressor is made by SANDEN, as is clutch.
