Ipod in the front armrest

Featured Replies

Hi,

Has anyone fitted a ipod interface and routed the cable into the front armrest? I'm definately getting an ipod interface most likely this one; Skoda iPod Interface 8 pin ISO Connector :: SKODA :: XCarLink and i would like to route the cable into the armrest as opposed to the glovebox or beneath the radio (locations i've noticed people on here have routed their interfaces to).

Does anyone that has done this have any advice on doing this? I don't particularly like the idea of taking panels apart incase i can't get them back together, but i'm sure it'll be worth it in the end!

Cheers,

Ross

It can be done, but it's a pain as you may need to extend the cables. Depending on whether you have the armrest with the hole in for the telephone or not depends where you route the cables. Biggest issue is that if you drill through the bottom of the back (pivot) you can't use the pivot function of the arm.

Getting the panels out was no issue, I took the armrest out (remove left hand pivot cover and take out bolt), then the centre consoles. Routing the cable underneath was actually easier by removing the glovebox (5 screws only and it comes out). That gives you some more working space.

To be honest I have fitted ipods in both locations (centre arm on a friends and front on mine), and having driven both I prefer the front mount (I have a holder clipped on the vents) as it is less distance for the eyes from the road when you are using it, so I found it safer, but location is a personal choice.

Thanks for the replay Dave.

Now that you mention it, the only reason i wanted it in the armrest is that it's out of sight to thiefs etc, but i'm not sure now that i'd even risk leaving it in there and if i'm not going to leave it there, i may aswell have a front mount.

Is there a front mount kit that you recommend? Does it involve drilling any of the dash components? Thanks again.

Sorry i just reread and noted that you mentioned a holder clipped to a vent. Where did you buy it from? Cheers
