VRS fault code?

Featured Replies

Anyone any idea what this means, the code doesn't seem to be on the Wiki Ross-Tech list, (code 18009) or the list posted by Lummox above, here is an excerpt of what the scan said in Engine 01 module; 1 Fault Found:

18009 - Relay for Supply Voltage Terminal 30 (J317): Implausible Signal

P1601 - 35-00 - -

Readiness: 0 0 0 0 0

Any advice would be appreciated.

Got some more info on this directly from Ross-Tech but still not that sure what it all means, her is the reply if anyone can shed any light I would be grateful;

"I don't have any more info on this code handy either, but it doesn't

strike me as particularly serious. Worst case would involve getting a

set of wiring diagrams and a multimeter and tracing out the circuits in

question, or maybe as simple as a new J317 relay (which is actually J322

in this car and should be in socket number 15)."

So I guess I change the relay and if that doesn't work get out the multimetre?

Cheers

Faskoda.

According to the Current Flow diagram, J317 is a voltage supply relay with a 30(Perm live) in and an 87 output. It then goes to various components such as interior lights etc...

What is the model year of the vehicle, then I can be more specific

J322 is a Diesel control relay and normally, if this plays up the car cuts out...

If you send me the symtoms etc and the Model Yr, I may be able to help

:)

Thanks for that. THe car is a 2005 VRS, the funny thing is it doesn't seem to have any symptoms but the code shows up on a Vag-com scan. We have owned it for a week now and I just did the scan to be careful before buying. The owner wasn't aware of a problem, the car was exactly what we were looking for and I was advised it wasn't serious so I went ahead with the purchase. It hasn't missed a beat all week and that's all I can say. Any advice apprieciated, thanks, Faskoda.

Fraid I am still stuck with this, I have PM'd Rossmastertech but no reply yet. I had a look at the Haynes manual, hopeless (could go into a rant here but feeling restrained this evening), but managed to identify where the relays are (behind the dash drivers side) took all that apart today but no corresponding numbers ie J317 or J322, so confused. Had a look under the bonnet as it said there may be more relays there but coundn't see anything. Did a Vag-com scan and the code is back, previously cancelled so the fault's still there but still no noticeable symptoms. Car by the way is a 2005 model and I think I will visit the Dealer toorrow and see what they say but if anyone else has any ideas I would be very grateful ,

Thanks in anticipation,

Faskoda.

Does anyone have any idea about this or able to offer any advice as to where I can get the information?

Should I just phone the dealer?

Maybe they will say to me, "have a look on Briskoda" and I will say; been on there no-one knew. C'mon guys someone must know something???

Have you checked the fuses on top of the battery. Are there any other codes in othe controllers, particularly 09. Have you had a look at measuring blocks to find out what the terminal reading is?

  • Author

Cheers for the reply, I have checked the fuses but the code seems to relate to a relay- J317. There are no other fault codes, although I did cnacel this one and it comes back almost straight away so the problem is ongoing. I checked th relay panel inder the dash but nothing is marked J317 and I can't see any other relay panels eg. around the engine bay. Not sure about the measuring blocks (not that good with Vag-com) what would I need to do?

Found some info on the relay location, may help!

The diesel direct injection system relay - J322- is located on the relay carrier in the driver's footwell on the left, relay base 15.

Thanks Chris, was beginning to worry no-one was coming up witht he answer to this. I had a look in the relay base before but didn't know what number I was looking for, will have another go now though.

Cheers
