New Golf GTI

:thumbdwn:had a sit in one today in wakefield. have to say i dont like it one bit. it looks absolutely pap. far too boxy, far to bland. the wheels on it did look great though. really dislike the twin pipes, they are just too small. think the launch date is for the middle of the month?

I've not seen one in real life, but the review in What Car was good, and I thought it looked great.

Rubbish. It knocks the spots of the Leon! The price has crept up into silly territory though and makes the Scirocco look even more attractive if you don't need the extra load space.

Had one in at work today, on the whole I like it aside from the front fogs that look like they have been turned on their side for the sake of it and why oh why oh why couldnt they think up some new wheels.

each to their own, personally i dont think it looks different enough from the standard car. and yeah. price takes the choofin mick. couldnt justify paying it at all.

im not keen on the scirocco either! why pay all that money for an engine that you can get in a car thats ££££ cheaper?? eg, the octavia. bigger boot, bigger car. want a small car that goes fast and is over priced. just buy a new TT:thumbup:

I quite like the new GTI looks wise, it's still got the understated thing going on but with the new family features - it's a nice refresh on the whole. I agree with Ross about the alloys and front fogs, but I'm also not so keen on the tail lights - only because they're too Audi looking and it's a VW

I also like it :)

Would much prefer a Scirocco though!

The only thing I don't like is the cheaper plastics in use, one of the guys I was working with in Manheim a few days ago had one (non GTi ... think it was a GT? also had a challenger as well .... which is mint btw) but the Golf plastics on the door cards have headed into hard scratchy plastic territory not to dissimilar from the Roomster / Fabia 2.

Styling wise I loved it though.

Sorry Dave ... can't agree with much of that at all.

The mkvi golf is an evolution of the v; it's not supposed to look different. However, I think the majority of the changes improve the car. the new rear has made a big difference and has banished that awful black plastic valance that was on the last one. The Leon always offered better value for money, but it soon became a false economy of sorts when you set eyes on that interior / dash.

As for the Scirocco ... you're seriously not telling me that the engine is the only important thing? Can you imagine a mkV golf gti with a lower, meaner stance and even more 'chuckable' characteristics? Yeh, you could buy an Octavia Vrs but it's hardly a fair comparison is it?

And as for the TT reference mate ... why would you buy a TT when you can have the Scirocco for MUCH less? Surely, the prices of the TT shows that the Scirocco isn't at all overpriced for the overall package it offers? VW have borrowed from the Skoda book of 'practical and exciting' with the Scirocco in that it offers much of what you can get from the tt in terms of handling / performance, but still offers a decent enough boot with some degree of folding seats. The GT model also comes with lots of toys as standard that are extras on the TT. I think the Scirocco remains a great overall package.

:iagree: Like the Scirroco a lot, the new Golf has apparently shed loads of weight

as well making it a better ride, IIRC

I prefer the looks of the Scirocco but the Golf has (I think) got a little bit more power. I would prefer the Golf as I personally like Q Cars. It is an expensive piece of kit now though. Can easily hit over £25k with options so just a fantasy for me at the moment.

Agree with the plastics comment above. According to the salesman, they have based the dash more on the mk4 than 5. i thought the plastic was abit scratchy though and 'cheap'.

Very Leon-esque lol.

the interior in the leon is pretty pap, but hey thats why all mine is now gloss black!

Although they've revamped the Leon interior for the 'new' fr I understand.
