Spongy brakes on the vRS

Featured Replies

The brakes on my vRS feel a bit spongy, it takes about half the pedal travel to get them to bite and when they do it they don't put any confidence into me. I've only had the car two weeks now so don't know if this is what they are meant to be like.

If anyone lives in or near Enfield, North London i would love to compare to see if mine are being special.

i know what you mean, they dont feel fantastic but there not bad at all. a lot upgrade to the audi tt quatro brakes, i may be tempted soon myself

replace the pads, disks and brake fluid if not done already. Then try again

Mine are a bit like that as well. Strangely the brakes on SWMBOs 1.2 Classic feel a lot sharper.

mine where just like that when i picked mine up. because an oldish guy had had it the brakes were never put on hard they had glazed up. what ya need to do is some really hard brakin from about 70 down to 0. really ancre on. do this a few times and they should feel better.. mine are fine now after a few runs of doin that.

Hello mikee,

If brakes feel spongy, it sounds air has entered into the braking system, look for obvious brake fluid leakage.

As to efficiency of brakes, that sounds that poor contact friction between brake pads and brake discs.

Bleed system, renewing brake fluid throughout, and fit new brake pads, after rough-up brake discs, to increase contact friction. Problems should now appear gone.

Cheers for the info guys, the car is only 3 weeks old so will give them a bit longer before taking it back to Skoda for them to look at it.
