Managed to get the air vent out without major issue at the weekend. Tried a couple of methods to release / compress the four clips without luck. In the end the missus came up with a neat solution which may be useful to others needing to do this job. Basically I ended up using a pallet knife which was thin enough to easily slide behind the vent. Rather than releasing / compressing the clips, I simply used the pallet knife to gently knock them back off the vent and into the dashboard. Vent came out and the clips were picked off the carpet by the pedals.

Really wish I'd thought of this the first time around!

So, the gauge is now out. Looking at it, it is obvious that the board has sprung the hot melt glue off the surround. Nothing broken, so I will get this sent off to freegeek this week for a software update and a spot of araldite.

The vents are hell to get out, last time I used credit cards but, ended up putting my fist through the slats (it was broken and I had a replacement vent). Even then it was fun getting it out.

Got my LG back from Freegeek yesterday with Software version 2.54 on it.

Improvements over previous versions:

Support for 1.9 Tdi engine (already tested it on my sisters Leon TDi )

Choose to calculate bhp using VAG Torque method instead of MAF/0.8 method

Change scale of graphs within each graph

Change measurement unit (metric/imperial) of each graph or gauge within each graph / gauge

Automatically powers off when you turn the ignition off (no more having to remember to turn it off)

Theres also a new digital MPH and Revs readout and the MPH on there is more accurate than the speedo dial.

I so need one of these. The not turning off thing was the main thing that would have irritated me. Glad it's fixed.
