Rear brake sticking???

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Got an irritating problem with my 2005 Octy VRS. Over the past few weeks it has developed a squealing noise from one of the rear wheels when moving at low speeds, I presumed that it may have been the pads squealing within the capilers so I took them out and stuck a bit of copper grease on the back of the pads. This seemed to cure the prob initially, however after a few days the noise returned with a vengence!

I have jacked up the back end of the car today, released the handbrake and tried spinning the rear wheels. Both spin freely and no noise can be heard?????

Has anyone else come accross this?

PS. Forgot to say it seems to get louder when cornering

I suspect it's possible the brake is binding slightly. Do the pads slide freely in the bracket and are both sliding pins able to move freely?

Stripped the caliper off again this morning, one of the sliding pins was seized solid. A couple of taps with a hammer and a bit of working back a forth with a 15mm spanner and hey presto the squealer has gone.

Cheers for the advice anyway bud!!
