Is it possible to...

...upgrade the brake discs from 288 to 312mm without changing the calipers too ? If yes, would the change make any difference(i'm thinking that even if the surface of the disc increases, the surface of the pads remains the same so the contact area between the disc and the pad would be the same unless...i can also fit bigger pads?!?!) ? As for the pads, i'm considering the DS2500 !

If you have 288mm discs.. (which i think you will have) on an octy.. im pretty sure you can retain the standard calipers and just change the carriers/discs/pads... quick way to check is look at your brake calipers.. and if there is a metal wire/spring going across the front.. they can be used for 312mm discs :)

Pads stay the same so you are right about the pad area on the disc being the same, however, you get more leverage (I think that's the term) due to them being from the rotational centre. I'm sure someone will correct me on that.

As for changing the calliper, no you don't have to. You can make up a spacer bracket (or a local machine shop can) which will do the job. Having said that, the callipers seem to go for about

Not quite true Col, see my reply, you need to shift the calliper out about 12-14mm IIRC

Got the price for the DS : 129 E (what do u think?). What disc manufacturer would u recommend either on 288 or 312 mm ? ( I'm waiting for some prices on Zimmerman and another one that i forgot )

Other major advantage of bigger discs is that they can dissipate more heat so the brakes will fade less quickly than smaller discs!

Looked at Ferodo's guide and found :

1.8T 20V / 1997 > 07/00 / front > FDS 1463 / rear > FDS 1083

My questions :

- Is FDS 1463 a DS 2500 ?

- 1997 > 07/00 means ... ? ( my car is from 2000/2001 > took it in feb 2001 but i have the impression it's made in 2000 ( the engine is AGU))
