remap judder

Featured Replies

Hello all, had my fabia vrs custom remapped today, standard it was reading 137bhp and it has been increased to 175bhp with a nice smooth curve. Cant really test it that good as its pouring down out there, but on the way home in 4th 5th 6th gear if i try to accelerate between 20-25rpm there is a juddering noise. from other discussions i am guessing its the fly wheel...or is it just the way i drive it? if i take it up to 30rpm smoothly there is no problem...but befor i could accelerate hard between 20-25rpm. could anyone advise me on this?

Flywheel for sure, mine did the same after it was mapped. The only way to avoid it is to drive round it, but where's the fun in that :P

cheers graham, does this mean my flywheel is worn? or will it wear/damage my flywheel/clutch?

You can avoid judder by changing up at about 1500rpm or more, nothing better than a revvy DERV.

Not necessarily, i've known brand new DMF's fitted on mapped motors do the same straight away. Mine had 10K on it when it was done. But then again if its done big miles it could well be worn, as for damaging things ? i'm not sure.

Alright buddy!

Its just one of the things that happens with the duel mass flywheel. Unless you want to go for a single mass flywheel and uprated clutch the best way is to adjust your driving style.

Basically try not to use full throttle below 2500 rpm. You will find with the remap you won't need full throttle anymore anyway, unless your having a wee bit fun.

Also you will find the car is happier using more of the rev range. If i'm booting it with the chip on, i tend to change gear about 3500 - 4000 rpm and don't usually go below 2000 rpm. Of cource if going about town you can drive normally changing gear around 2000-2500rpm and just tickling the throttle.

Every map is slightly different, and it took me a couple of weeks to confidently boot it knowing when it will start to slip the clutch or judder, you'll get used to it in no time.

Just be carefull, if you feel it judder, either back off, or drop down a gear.

Laters.

yea i just tought 20-25 rpm seemed high to judder. will just have to knock it down abit when i pull away on the motorway  cheers lads

Hi there. Is the judder damaging the DMF?.

Hi there. Is the judder damaging the DMF?.

Regards Chris

thats what i was looking to find out but like the advise says depends how i am driving it

The judder is the extra torque spreading the two halfs of the flywheel to there limit and you hear the full vibration of the engine through it, rather than the springs soaking up the vibrations, i think! lol

Im sure someone will correct me.

Im sure it will eventually damage it in some way, but ive ran the chip for 10k + miles now with no major issues, touch wood! I do get a slight knocking on tickover from the flywheel when cold though, probably from the extra play after stretching the springs too much.

Just try not to do it is the general oppinion, or upgrade as many have done. I just don't fancy upgrading if i don't need to, (save the pennies).

Hello there, Just found out after owning my vrs for 4 months without any problems, its been remapped, and has ruined my flywheel, the silicon seal inside the flywheel had exploded everywhere and covred my gearbox, fun fun fun. not a very happy chap at the mo, as it has cost me over 800 bucks to sort it out. best thing to do is sort it before things go horribly wrong dudes.

If i just change the clutch to an uprated clutch....will this help ?

You don't need to upgrade the clutch. Just drive it differently, don't boot it in the range where the judder occurs, either drop down a gear to get through it you'll get more out of it this way anyway, or be a bit more patient with the right foot.

yea that is what i am doing just thought with it been close to the 50k mark i may change the clutch, what do you guys think?

i have an upgraded clutch and remap and mine judders if i boot it at low revs. you just have to change your driving style. i used to be able to just flooer it in 6th on motor way but now i have to drop it to 5th to avoid the judder. you soon get use to how to drive it, it only happens with me if i get a little carried away or get a bit caught off guard. what kinda torque have ya got?

it has been put up to 310 lb but suprisingly was runing at 25 standard anyways
