Ultrac Sessanta - ride quality on vRS

Featured Replies

I have a dilemma. Within the past few days I have switched from my 17" winter wheels with Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas to my 'summer' 18" B14s with Michelin Pilot Exalto 2s. Now I know there will be a small difference in the ride comfort between the 17 vs 18s but my PEs shod B14s seem harder than I would like (or remember). Both sets of wheels need a pair of new tyres very soon as the 'fronts' are down to 2.5mm of tread, with the rears being 5-6mm or more.

I have a choice of either a) reverting to my 17" with Ultrac Sessantas (that I find quite supple in their own way) or B) getting some Ultrac Sessantas for my 18s, but this will be expensive if the ride is still too harsh.

Question is; has anyone got experience of the ride quality on 18s with Ultrac Sessantas, compared to their earlier OE fit of Bridgestone, Continental or Michelin? Are the Ultrac Sessantas any more or less 'supple' for ride quality than any other brand?

I've got 18" Ultrac Sessantas on the front of mine and Exalto 2s on the back. Quite satisfied with them, but TBH I only had Exalto 2s on the front before that very briefly, so I can't really make a judgement on the difference.

We replaced 18" Dunlop Sport Maxx (OE) on the front on our car. I would say the Sessanta is harder and noisier oh and less fuel efficient!

Rear was Sava Intensa and would say the rear feels just as hard (they are tough as old boots tyres!) and again is noisier.

We run at 34 PSI all round

I'll probably pick up a set of 4 Pilot Exaltos or Pilot Sport 2s next time Costco have their 20% offer, being as you can buy them at the cheap price and have them fitted any time, you don't even have to have all 4 put on together.

Mine came with pilot exalto 2 as standard, i then changed to vredestein sessantas all round on mine prior to my blow out now have sessantas on front toyo t1r on rear. I cant say i have noticed tyre noise or difference in ride quality when i fitted them, just a massive increase in grip especially in the wet as the exaltos lacked in that department. plus tyre wear on the exaltos was very very good. managed 22000 miles which included alot of abuse.

My front two Continentals needed changing, so landed up buying four 18" Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas. The ride is slightly harsher, but i love them and the grip is superb.Got them from Elite Direct in Essex just under £85.00 per tyre(delivered).I've now checked and they've gone up to £92 (delivered)

I give them the thumbs up:thumbup:

Gave wrong details of tyre seller

I found the ride absolutely fine on my last vRS with the Sessantas on 18s so I wouldn't worry about it. My current vRS came with Conti Sports and these seem OK but I will be changing to the Sessantas again when the time comes.

Sorry to hijack a thread, but where are you guys buying your Ultrac Sessanta's from?

I usually use Camskill as I find them to be very competitive on price

Unfortunately they dont do the Vredesteins in my size (225/45/17) :(

typo

I got mine from Hawley's in Hillsborough. They've got some other branches around Sheff too and they will do a good deal for multiple tyres. I only bought 1 though so it was £104 inc vat or something, fitted.

Cheers for that

I have been there before for Powerflow exhausts on previous cars, but never actually bought any tyres from them.

Might give them a call soon, as the currents need changing shortly

Got my last pair from Elite Direct also as here;- Tyres | Discount Car Tyres | Van Tyres | 4x4 Tyres

£86.25 inc VAT delivered or £91.94 inc VAT fitted. Best thing when I bought was that the tyres had only come out of the mould about 6 weeks earlier.

I've got the Sessanta's on the fronts now (18's), following recommendations from other on this site...they replaced the original Conti's...after only 13k !!! (i think), car has only done 16k now,so can't really comment on wear yet..

Can't say I notice much difference in noise, ride etc...but defo better in the wet! Fuel econ has always been poor (in relation to what others seem to get)...they look good !

Sourced thro' a local trusted indy garage, think I was about £108 each? fitted.

Hope that helps.
