bhp v torque?

Featured Replies

I love those posts in threads like this. As a owner of a 2.0T that makes 280bhp+ and having coming from a modified PD130 with 220bhp+ i'd be nervous coming up against my old PD130 ;)

Both the 2.0T and PD130 has 6 speeds boxes and to be honest gearchanges were no more than in my PD130. The TDI box is higher ratio and i can practically nearly get the same speed out of each gear as the 2.0T. It's not that simple of narrow powerband

blah blah gear ratios make up for different power bands. BHP for BHP there won't be much difference petrol vs diesel. I know i have had both.

torque makes turbo diesels feel fast. my remapped PD160 has almost the same power as a 3.2 V6 Vectra GSi but noticably more torque and it weighs less, yet on the road from 20-30mph there's very little in it. in fact my frequent gear changes meant I started holding the Vectra up. I know for a fact we were both trying as it was my brother driving his girlfriends Vectra

your ibiza actually has a better bhp/ton ratio and around 50% more torque than the vectra :)

but yeah right away the ibiza gets away due to the huge low down torque but the vectra very quickly catches up due to its amazingly smooth and wide power band along with its long gears.

as said this was between me and my brother, both knowing full well what was going on so no sneak attacks, no jumping the gun and no boasting by either party as the ibiza was slightly slower and the vectra isn't mine so i couldn't care less either way.

Micky if a 220bhp PD golf is as fast as or can beat you "280bhp+" octavia then your octavia is seriously broken and you must agree with me according to this:

BHP for BHP there won't be much difference petrol vs diesel. I know i have had both.

:)

I never said the PD130 was as fast or faster. I said nervous, I meant it could get you by surprise if you weren't watching out. Make no mistake my Octy is rapid but has 60bhp more than my old PD130. In perspective it was quicker than a mapped 1.8T (ibiza) and at least as fast as a 1.8T with a full Miltek, FMIC and 4 bar fuel pump and that was a fact and only revved to 4750rpm .:)
