Octavia LE Diesel....Yes or No?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm considering trading in my fabia vrs for the octavia le diesel. The dealer has offered me a good price on the fabia and a great price for the octy.

I don't know what to do really, I'm hearing all sorts of bad stories about the 170bhp engine it uses. I've been told the pd130 in the fabia is much better.

Would I be wise to make the move? MY fabia is 2006, so factors such as warranty running out soon and MOT next year make me feel I should make the move. Tho the fabia is real fun to drive.

Any advice?? :thumbup:

Not sure that I've heard many bad things about the new 170 CR diesel?

I've got the Octy vRS with the previous generation 170 PD engine in and I love it! If you can get a good price on the LE (and if you can live with the wheels) then I would definitely take the plunge.

Only thing stopping me might be whether to wait for the facelifted model that's coming in summer, which will also be available in that nice metallic grey, and will have much prettier boots on it too...

Nice dilemma to have though my friend!

Not heard anything bad about the CR as yet. Mines the PD170 and its fantastic. I'm sure if you make the plunge you wont regret it. :thumbup:

Yeah I know what you mean, the interior in the LE is stunning, the wheels are a little ugly, tho I think if the car was lowered slightly it might make them look a little better, the standard springs makes the car sit way too high.

Is this version not a pd engine? Whats the difference in them? :thumbup:

If you search you'll find several threads on here comparing the PD engine with the CR - just got to do a bit of hunting.

I'm not aware of any problems so far with the CR, so I'm assuming that your comments relate to things you may have heard about the PD.

If you've been offered a good deal go for it. I love the LE's leather trim, but I prefer the dials and steering wheel of mine to the facelift version. That however is down to personal preference - you might be the complete opposite.

If you go back a few pages in the Octavia 2 thread you'll find some great pictures of the LE

If I was in the market for a diesel again I'd certainly consider a CR170. In fact, depending on how my car usage pans out in the next few years, I might chop to a vRS CR, should my mileage increase.

I wouldn't have any concerns over reliability. Best thing is to have a have a spin in one, and see if you get on with it. Certainly there's enough info on here about the differences between PD and CR and probably the most noticeable will be the smoother and more linear power delivery, compared with the thump of the PD130 in the Fabia. Just a different feeling and way of producing the power :)

Enjoy, whatever you end up doing :thumbup:

Steve

Take one for a long test drive!

I have one - the wheels have really grown on me, and I think the current shape is much more destinctive

PD = pump duesse

CR = common rail

Different injection methods, to do with the pressure at which fuel is injected (amongst other things).

The CR engines are largely speaking smoother, quieter and slightly more economical as they have better control over their precise fuelling. Power and torque remain the same because the engine architecture (bore, stroke, compression, turbo size and boost etc) remain the same.

The main reason is because the CR will allow them to pass emissions tests much more easily, both now and in the future.

Hi,

I recently upgraded from a 07 Furby vRS to a an Octy LE and although it took a little while I now love the LE (To be honest it was more from missing my furby I think I didn't gel immediately) but the interior, handling and ride are all top notch.

Where are you based ? I wouldn't mind showing you around the Octy LE if you are localish.

They are a real nice motor, love the interior....I'm in Northern Ireland!!

heh - a little too far for me! - in SE England!

But make the switch if you can - it's worth it for the interior and boot space alone.

OEM Bluetooth or VW Vluetooth Kit a good Idea as are rear parking sensors....

Not sure what bad things you've heard about the CR engine but I think the engine is great. I got a VRS CR in January and have put about 10K on it since. The engine is smooth, quiet, and very responsive. I also own a Volvo XC90 D5 and prefer the engine in the VRS. Only thing I'm not that taken with in the skoda is the sound system which isn't a patch on the volvo... Can't have it all I suppose...
