VRS leak from bulkhead!

Featured Replies

I have a small leak on my car and after managing to get underneath I can see its dribbling down from what seems to be pipes going into the bulk head.

My coolant doesn't seem to be going down drasticly so could this be air con, or is that gas?

Im lost but im guessing the fix for it would be expensive.

any ideas what it could be?

hi mate, my car had every leak going so i suspect this is either the aircon dumping water (normal practice) after the car has been running, underneath the car (it comes out the aircon drain pipe (through the bulkhead behind the engine towards the central tunnel but on the passenger side if that makes sense, you dont say if the water is leaking under the car or inside the car, if you are lucky, its just under the car, if its leaking into the car however (what mine did which then went into the sound deadening and ended up with me stripping the entire interior (minus upper part of dash) and replacing the carpet with a new anthracite one it is a right pain to fix, believe me.

Let me know though and if it is leaking into the car i will tell you what you need to do. Feel under your carpet mats to see if it looks/feels wet!

Ps air con uses gas, but part of the process is that it collects water in the system that then needs to be dumped, this is normal and under all cars with aircon you should see a puddle of water, this is often apparent when you pull up and check under the car.

Hope that helps!

I would suggest aircon drainage too.

Its nothing to worry about, just water from the process of A/C.

Hijacking the thread to ask about possible points of coolant leak. I find my level going down slowly but constantly. I fill to the middle of the tank and then in about 400km it's down to the start of the min marker hashed area (the top part of it). I looked and looked and can't find any obvious red spots, where is it going?

I also noticed that when then engine is warm, if I open the coolant bottle the level goes up drastically, for example once it was half-filled, opened the cap and it went up to the very top (I had filled it up to the middle when engine was cold in the morning). Is this normal?

I've been thinking about maybe the head gasket, but there is no smoke coming out the exhaust (only some on chilly mornings, guess it's condensation), the exhaust gases smell ok (I smell them like every other day :D), the oil on the dipstick looks fine. The only thing that's a bit worrying is that the antifreeze is not the bright red colour it should be, but rather a red->brown color, still red though.

Any ideas?

i do believe its normal for the levels to rise when removing the cap when the engine is warm, it should hiss when your remove the cap? i think its that air pressure that keeps the coolant pushed down into the system:thumbup:
