A friend of mine is looking for a new car

He's narrowed down to between 2

Octy vRS Diesel estate, 18 months old, 20k miles

Focus 2L TDCi Zetec Estate, 6months old, 8k miles

both about the same price.

I'm thinking the Octy will be faster, bigger, (more toys?) better presence/image, but will also be thirstier, more to insure, and perhaps worse off dynamically.

Or is there something more obvious than that to think about?

well, I thought that would be the likely opinion of most people on here, but just wondering why ?

I think the Focus would be better dynamically as Fords do handle well.

Economy should be even stevens depending on driving style.

Its a tough choice. I haven't driven any of the cars in question though to make an opinion.

I would take the octavia for simple reason the skoda looks better, better load space as stated and the economy will be better (And Proformace).

The reason I take a dislike to the Ford is the interior build is not as sturdy (imo) and the official figures are a bigger lie then the skoda. you'll easily get 42 to 45 mpg with the octy (Medium Footed) but the Ford will give a meesly 38 to 40 mpg this is based off the ones I have driven at work. Admittedly I am assuming comparison of the octy with the 170bhp passat's have at work. (The passat is heavier so mpg for skoda will possibly be better.) I also find the Passat to have better get up and go compared to the fords on fleet.

In the end of the the day this is my oppinion. Not Always accurate information, and obviously I will be biast to the Skoda. But I have tried to be as objective as possible. I would however change my mind if it was a New Mondeo as it is much better car all around (Except economy) the the octavia... just food for thought there
