Got a leak and my mate is a mechanic. He said he'll find it by dropping a dye in the expansion tank and using a ultra violet light to trace the source.

it should work, but be carefull. Water has a habit of appearing to come from somewhere, where in reality it came from somewhere else.

Unless it's leaking inside the engine ....in which case you wont see it

No. If, for example, the head gasket is leaking, the cooland leaks internally into the engine, and disappears as a bit of steam in the exhaust.

If the oil cooler leaks, the coolant vanishes into the oil- though it would show up as mayonnaise.

It's more likely you have an external leak though, so the test is worth doing.

Yeash as I can see some pink residue near the back of the exhaust shield

a similar method is used for finding leaks in aircon systems

Well its no good to me as I doubt I have any coolant in there. Keep having to top it up with water.

No point in buying coolant for it to leak out
