getting rid of spanner sign

Featured Replies

Hi Folks. I have a skoda octavia 07 1.9tdi and it is due for a service shortly. It is it's third service at 45k and a good friend of mine is going to do the necessary work(ex mechanic and the skoda is out of warranty). I know though that this famous spanner sign indicating service time is going to appear on the dash between the speedo and rev counter. Is there any way of getting rid of this spanner sign without having to go the dealers which is an eighty mile round trip. Thanks

What a car by the way!!

If you have access to the VCDS software and lead (A.K.A VAG-COM) it can reset the service reminder easily and there is no need to go anywhere near a dealership.

Does your car not have a 3 year warranty on it?

EDIT

Failing that, I have found this from the manual:

Resetting Service Interval Display

We recommend having this resetting performed by a specialist garage.

Specialist garage:

• resets the memory of the display after the appropriate inspection

• makes an entry in the Service schedule

• affix the sticker with the entry of the following service interval to the

side of the dash panel on the driver's side.

The service interval displays can also be reset as follows by using the

reset button ⇒ page 13, fig. 2 on the trip counter:

• Switch off the ignition, press the reset button of the trip counter for

distance driven and hold it down.

• Switch the ignition on and release the reset button. Now turn the reset

button to the right. The service interval displays are reset.

Please note this will default the car to fixed servicing and is not recommended from a warranty perspective!

He's in Ireland, so no third year warranty from SUK.

wega3 is right. Over here in the emerald isle we get 2 yrs warranty and that's you're lot. We also have the benefit of huge diferences in car prices. we loose again. My octy will be with me for a long time. Great car though with little bit if tinkering!

Thanks so far

Ok, I assumed you were in England hence the warranty question. Yeah, 2 years for you then

You also assumed he wasn't in Scotland or Wales?!

Uh-oh! :sofahide:

isnt there something you can do with holding down the trip reset to clear it too?

Yeah thats right, I did.

Yeah thats right, I did.

That's rather ignorant of you then :rotz:

Amazing (or amusing) how often the answers are in the vehicle handbook. I wonder why manufacturers bother to put them in their cars. After all owners seem not to read them. Save a few pence and even more trees.............

Agreed 100%

I think people who read user guides/manuals are definately in the minority! Seems mad to me, how can you get the most of a purchase, if you don't know how it works?!
