Could someone tell me what this pipe is for?

Featured Replies

Bit of a noob question but what is the pipe that I artistically highlighted in orange below actually for? The reason I ask is that I've got 3 splits in it 2 very small and one larger where the connector is in the middle (higlighted in manly pink).

Also any part numbers for replacements would be great!

Looks like a vacuum pipe to the D V.

Is your car running rough & feels like it's lost power? as this would be the symptom of a split vacuum pipe.

if its the pipe i had to replace its expensive for being a piece of plastic carp. around £30 IIRC. looking at the pic thats just for the bit on the right of the y piece. I would go around checking that y pice and the vacuum pipes near the dipstick.

Cheers guys. I'm off on holiday today and only found this yesterday. The two smaller splits don't look very deep, the one at the connector is quite bad though but it hasn't split beyond the connector yet so it shouldn't be leaking. I've got a roll of bodge tape in the boot just incase :o

the split on the "Y" section of the pipe is a really common thing, about £26 from the stealership i think i paid

Oh dear!!

That's your brake servo pipe. It takes power fron the engine to the servo. With out it you will have no brakes.

Nothing to important then. :eek::eek::eek:

Get it fixed now or risk complete brake failure.

He'll still have brakes. You'll just need to beef it on the pedal!
