Why is unleaded increasing in price and Diesel Static?

Featured Replies

Can anybody tell me that after ages of Diesel being called "black gold" it is now stable against increasing unleaded costs. Maybe a Diesel car is still a good bet:confused:

I can only assume it is to do with some other industry that's using more petrol in it's work, or perhaps more likely, there is a slackening off of an industry that uses diesel derived items?

The difference between U/L and diesel where I work is now just 2p, with U/L for sale at 97.9P and diesel for sale at 99.9P.

A total garage near to where I live has Unleaded @99.9 and Diesel @ 99.9

And it's Summer; the off season for sales of central heating oil.

As I already alluded to in the other thread:

US Driving season (They all drive petrol cars) = On

US heating season (Diesel is heating oil) = Off

So wre are paying for them to have cheap fuel. blooming yankees!

No.

They are consuming a lot more petrol (I mean loads of it) and a lot less derv at this time of year.

Due to this there is the same derv available and less demand.

There is also the same petrol available and more demand.

Therfore derv prices will go down and petrol prices will go up.

Isn't heating oil paraffin though:confused:

Yet the gap between the two fuels had been steadily increasing for 18 months throughout all seasons , so I'm not convinced thats the cause.

We didn't see the gap fall to near zero last summer

Yeah thats true.

Could be a ploy to get more people to switch to diesel before they ramp prices up?

But now people are chopping down the rainforest to grow oil seed. Bit of a double whammy.

Diesel is £1.049 near me. Even the cheap stations near work are £1.029. Not seen it for under a pound for some time now.

Paraffin is mostly the base stock for jet fuel these days. It's also used in portable heaters and oil lamps, but domestic central heating systems mostly use diesel base stock.

Petrol station near me has UL at 103.9 and Derv at 101.9.

Was 101.9 for Tesco super last night. It's really shooting up right now.

Heating Oil for domestic use is Kero. When I had my house out in the sticks that's what i used to order at 200Litres a go.

From petrolprices.com:

...almost 80% of the cars on the road run on ULP. There is room for increasingly competitive sale of unleaded petrol. Diesel on the other hand, has a smaller retail demand than ULP, so the competitive forces at work are not as strong. The result is that diesel prices are a lot more stable. Fluctuations between the prices of ULP and diesel are usually a result of greater changes to unleaded prices than to diesel’s.

For once the price lag is working in the diesel driver's favour. It won't take long to catch up though.

Yep this is what used when I was living in Lampeter West Wales(Llanbedr pont Steffan Cymru for any Welsh speakers). Might have changed though:confused:

Nope heating oil is a std. Otherwise you'd have all sorts of domestic boiler stds. Domestic oil-fired boilers are set up for 28 Seconds Burning Oil, also described as Kerosene C2 (BS 2869#C2), Regular Burning Oil (RBO), Home or Domestic Heating Oil.

I think they were just taking the mick last year.

It was even worse when unleaded had dropped back to about 80p and diesel was 93p.

Once you took the tax off , they were charging 50% more for diesel compared to unleaded.

Diesel is better then Petrol.... think that covers it....lmao :D

Heating oil once was mostly diesel but they have changed over to Kero mostly now. Ours was diesel for years until we had to change the boiler. Diesel and Kero are not exactly the same but very similiar. I think Kero is another name for parrafin?
