Poorly VRS LE!

Featured Replies

Thanks for chipping back Brown_d9

Well, I confess to going for supermarket fuel. I typically go between Sainsburys and Tescos, but I always put Super Unleaded. Only time my vRS saw 95 was when I picked it up on fumes, and €15 euro in Belgium just before crossing back.

I know, I know, it was that Belgian fuel that did it :P Even though it was BP!

Please tell more? What was the issue with yours? I'm suspecting fuel pump follower at this stage...

Well, I am good friends with my stealer, so on the off chance I got them to plug it in when I was having to bogging down problem under acceleration....Exactly the same fault as yours, low fuel pressure.

Then it suddenly clicked that I had filled up that morning at the local jet garage, and thinking about it, every time it had bogged down, it had been running on Jet fuel (95 octane)

Ever since then I have only filled up at BP, and all is well, no more problems!

Off subject, I tried super unleaded and it didnt seem to do anything, if anything my MPG was a little lower, and no signs of any extra power so havnt bothered since.

just noticed the thread,

so far my le has covered 6.5k miles and it i havent had the problem with pulling away.

As you guys have talked about fuel i only put v power in the car as i have allways used it since the mk2 gti, as any other so called 98/99 allways bogged the golf down and made it run crap. Maybe it might be worth you guys going for a full tank of v power and and a full tank of what you normaly use and is if you still have the pulling away issues.

yep, only v-power in mine and no similar problems, so would be interesting if any other issues show up relating to the type of fuel in TSI engines from others...

Might try v-Power next time (just put in a tankful of Tesco's 99 ron). It definitely doesn't have any issues pulling away from stationary. I also noticed that the first few miles from cold, the engine is very eager (not that I rev it over 2.5k anyway before it hits normal temp), but as it reaches normal temp it sometimes remains snappy, sometimes appears to lose boost and some responsiveness.

The issue with power is more with rolling acceleration, but is not consistent. The acceleration must be WOT and the engine must be already doing 4k+ revs for it to bog. Try as I might I don't get this all the time either, but although it may not stutter, I distinctly feel the pull is not exactly there either?!?

Reading all the issues with the cam driven fuel pumps on these engines, I'm inclined to say fuel pressure causing extra air/boost to be dumped to avoid leaning the mix. MAF was mentioned previously also, will deffo mention it at the dealership, just in case its values are playing up. It wouldn't be unheard of either...

Update on this thread

Took the car in on the 6th, the dealer had it for 2 days and I had a courtesy Octy 2 diesel estate.

After tests and consultation with SUK, it has been decided to replace my fuel pressure sensor. SUK advised on an ECU reprogramming, but the symptoms they list needing this operation aren't exactly the ones my car has.

However, as they couldn't get hold of a new sensor quickly enough and it requires stripping the manifold apart, they booked me in again for next Friday.

I can't praise the after-sales service of my dealership high enough. The level of customer service and dedication to full customer satisfaction is outstanding and nothing like I have ever experienced before. Top dealership

I have over 7K on mine and always put 95 octane as recommended no proplem so far.......

The rasp note is only on lifting the throttle' date=' almost as if the cat was rattling inside. I've actually stood outside while someone revved up the engine while stationery and you can barely hear the rattling. It's really something you hear more inside the car, so exhaust note remains far too polite [/quote]

Have exactly the same issue on by mkII vRS petrol and can produce it in the same way - the cat just let go and it rattles like there's no tomorrow. Not under warranty anymore either - not happy....

Mine has now covered 12K, always run on BP 95 (Except for one tank of Optimax) and has not misfired or hesitated since the first month or so of ownership.

I really do think that if i was to put that crap fuel from my local Jet garage in it again, it would play up. Im sure that was the problem. How else could it fix itself?
