radio aerial in the way

Recommended Posts

I've just fitted roof bars to my octy 07(Hatch). These are to carry a fishing kayak. The problem is that the aerial at the end of the roof is going to be flattened by the kayak itself which will probably damage it. Is there any way of bending/detatching this aerial whilst the kayak is mounted onto the roof bars.

Thanks

Unscrew the top part of the aerial - it won't unscew entirely or fall out; fold it flat then screw it in again.

Done!! Thanks a mill

Great help as usual

You're welcome - glad it worked. BTW if you want to remove the top part of the aerial completely, give it a very hard, sudden tug after you've unscrewed it to the point that it rotates freely. This can be quite scary as the roof panel bends! It's apparently an anti-theft precaution so that the aerial can't be removed too easily.

As i'm from the emerald isle I got them from Micksgarage.ie. They cost 120 euro approx, ordered them online and arrived in 3 days. They're not skoda parts and they attach to the underside of the roof by the door openings. I think they're italian and called La Prealpina. Not too difficult to asemble and sturdy on the roof. I think the genuine skoda rails attach through a bolt hole above each door but I would have paid a lot more than 120 euros from the local dealership. They should also be relatively easy to detatch when not needed.

They should be plenty strong enough to carry my fishing kayak which is getting dipped into the sea this coming weekend
