Best Indoor Aerial Solution

Featured Replies

Another one for the Briskoda faithful, some of whom I know are likely to have an answer to this one :)

Have a friend in a flat, unable to add an exterior wall/roof TV aerial because of the rental agreement. Currently only has terrestrial TV channels, reception of which could easily be described as 'very poor'. Has an aerial atop the TV, through a booster, which requires frequent re-positioning depending on the channel selection. It annoys me intently when ever I go round, God knows how they manage there all the time!

So basically after the best answer to improving reception without changing the appearance of the flat, so it can't be anything outside, doesn't involve having half a broadcast system inside the flat and won't cost the earth :D

Would be great to get to position where the signal received is of a decent enough standard to receive Freeview, but not sure how feasible that would be without an external aerial? Suggestions please

Cheers,

Steve

Cable TV if possible?

Nope, that's a no go I'm afraid.

Nice sidestep idea though :)

I'd be interested in this as i currently live in the Mess on camp and the QM being the belter that he is won't allow us to put Outdoor aerials on the building or have Cable etc so i have to make do with one i bought from Curry's. It was about £30 and has a 45db Gain on both digital and analogue signals. It was one of them one for all jobs iirc

However i often have to move the Aerial around depending on which TV Channel im watching. So if anyone does have a good idea that works i will be interested.

Surely the flat has a communal aerial?

I've set out the position in the original post. For whatever reason, it doesn't.

Steve

Then get onto the landlord to fit one!

So, nobody with indoor aerial suggestions then? :)

Steve

problem is, pretty much all indoor aerials are crap, unless you're in a very strong signal area.

One thought: is there a cupboard or similar where your friend could fit a proper aerial out of sight- one like you might fit in a loft?

Erm read my post :P

Currys - Shop for TV Aerial - 1 FOR ALL SV9360 OFA 45DB AMPLIFIED AERIAL

Thats what i use but like you i still have to tweek it every so often but that could be the building im in.

Carl:thumbup:

My brother uses that one and it is faultless, though it is interruptable if people walk in the wrong place in the room :D

I have this one too, its pretty good, the only downside is that its pretty damn big when you pull the ariels right out.

I'd still rant on at the landlord to sort something. ;)

There's a reason the question was worded like it was, with the aim of finding a solution as stated - trust me! ;)

Is it in a prison cell?? :P

If you speak to the inmates in strangeways I remember they managed to get on the roof at some point

Whichever indoor amplified aerial you buy the amplifier will amplify the "noisy" part of the signal as well as the TV signal. Really he's stuffed when only Freeview & Satellite brodcasting is available. As said by others the owner of the building should provide a decent TV communial aerial. Another solution is to watch his favourite programmes on line such as BBC iplayer.

I used to have this exact same problem and I just bought a circular booster indoor aerial, which helped a bit, but do do you know what sorted it for good? A digi box.

I was told by the drone in Curry's that it wouldn't work with an indoor aerial and crap reception, but did I listen? No! :D I went and paid me £35 anyway on the strength of the 30-day no-quibble money-back guarantee.

I plugged it in expecting nothing and discovered that all channels were clear and bright as you like. I guess the digi box works as some kind of booster in itself.

Could be a solution and they can take the box back if it doesn't work.

Hope this helps

They do tend to boost the signal, as does a VCR, but the comments above about amplifying the noise as well stand.

Wardy: unfortunately, there's no good answer. I can only suggest trying one of the ones others have suggested if there really is no other way. Good luck.

Hmmm, no extra noise on mine, just good clear picture and sound :)

Depends if you're after some kind of HD cinema experience but I think they just need sound and vision without moving the aerial every 30 seconds :D

Got to be worth a try. As I say, you can always take it back
