How long do dampers last?

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a broken coil spring on my MkI Octavia RS. I've bought two new springs & was wondering about changing the dampers at the same time.

I don't really want to change them unless I have to, so I was wondering when people have found they needed to change dampers. Front/Rear/Mileage/Age etc.

My car is 7 yrs old & has 56K on it.

Cheers

Darren

My Elegance needed new dampers @ 3years old with 86k on the clock, the rears were leaking badly. It's an 04 plate

I changed mine at 115k on an 03 plate due to snapped spring. They were fine but uprated springs didn't like them.

Mine have seen better days at 125k, but still work perfectly well and I'm putting off spending money for the time being, until I decide which route serves me best - stock replacements, springs and shocks/FSDs, or coilys.

Hi all, thanks for the replies.

I have just been to my local dealers to pick up my springs & had asked the parts guy about dampers. He said they don't stock them as they sell so few. Seemed to think that they last well.

I think I'll stick with my originals unless I find problems with them when I get them off.

Cheers

BTW the parts guy recognised me. It's not good when the parts guy recognises you. :D

Lol. if any are knackered i have my old set in the garage that you can have for free.

Unless an individual owner feels their car is under-damped, I think lots of people who have no direct interest in selling dampers would say "until they start leaking".

Yeah mine are still fine after 100k.

When they do go, I want to get coilovers!
