Big (NOT Wide) Wheels for Felicia !

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Any opinions, suggestions, warnings or even howls of derisory laughter at my request for info on a wheel swap for my 1998 Felicia 1.9D Estate.

The current 13" wheels are I feel somewhat small.

What is the max Diameter the Felicia wheelarch will accept without butchering and what if any effect will it have on the gear/speedometer ratios/.... Phew !!...Next question is where a really rerally cheap set of BIG wheels lurk !!! :D

I had squeezed a set of 16" vauxhall vectra ones on. With 50 profile tyres so there was still plenty of give in them. Paid £50 for them off ebay and they were pretty clean. They were off an 04 plate vectra.

Gave around 5mm clearance front and back which is tight but they worked :)

If you retain the same rolling radius (based on a 13" rim, and a 165(/80)R13 tyre, I make this 297mm), you can go up to whatever you like! At the extreme of stupid, you could fit a 30" diameter wheel, but there's no space left for a tyre. In a practical sense, I'd look at 14 through 16 inch rims, depending on what sections you can get 165, 175 or 185 width tyres in.

If you increase the rolling radius over the figure I calculated above you'll get higher gearing, and could run into a legal problem, because it is illegal for a speedometer to read a lower speed than your actual road speed.

you can fit 17" wheels with 7" wide and ET 37 to ET 40 tyre size 195/40 and you wont get eny problems

OP - you'll notice everyone has mentioned what are in practice wider tyres. You can put bigger rims on with same-width tyres only up to 14 inch: beyond that you simply won't find any suitable tyres available. You'd need about 165/65/14 tyres. Much better to go a bit wider and a bit lower profile while you're at it - there's plenty of choice of 185/55/14 and that's what I use. Very close to the size of the original treads so speedo reading is unchanged.

Feck it, stick with 13" wheels but get some that are 9" wide, dump it on its **** and flare the arches.

sooo needs to be done to a Felly

i had 17s on a 40 offset on my fav with 205/40 tyres , rears only just caught on a 35mm drop with a person in the back , only need to bend the rear lip up a smidge to clear and i had 3 up in the back fine.

17s no rolled lip

shame your in ireland as these wheels are up for sale , doh!

So just as a daft question the stud alignment is the same for skoda and obviously vw so what else is compatable?

for 4/5 studded cars?!

Go to the website of BK Racing and you'll find they have the specs for most common cars online. Not the quickest imaginable way of checking compatibility but it's the best one I know!

ross your a dirty man

i have a set of 15" winter steel wheels off a G60 golf on mine, using 195/45 tyers, i have no problems, but might go for a 50 profile next time.

but when i get my new rear beam on i might do as ross said 20mm spacers on the back and arches rolled to feck.
