no aircon!!

Featured Replies

i noticed on bank holiday monday that my aircon on my 07 plate vrs was not working. i,ve got the car booked in for a sevice and told the service advisor about the aircon, my concern is that is this fault under warrenty? :(

Depends what it is.

If its a simple re-gas then probably not. However if there is a leak in the System somewhere (which will only show up under UV light with the Dye they put in after about 10 days) then i would think it would be

depends where the problem is, if you have a hole in your condensor caused by a stone, this obviously is not warranty, however if its electrical or another issue then most likely yes it will be covered.

Having the classic, i have noticed that you can only turn the temp control down to 17c ????????

and when the air con is running its not very cold, even using the recycle to cool things down faster, would a re-gas help

thanks for the replys, but i forgot to say that their is no gas in the system, so obviously a leak.i was hoping that if a stone had caused the leak in the condenser that this was under warrenty? granted i do drive the car as it was intended!!;) also is the condenser in front of the radiator? in other words will it be the first thing to be hit by a stone? cheers guys.:)

I had a coolant leak a couple of furby's ago, and the dealer said it was a fault in the system, and replaced it under warranty..they could easily have said it was caused by a stone, so credit to them

Just depends. Get it checked out pronto and go from there.

I ended up with a new compressor on mine under warranty.

Got the same problem with mine (same model and year as the OP) and it's going in for service tomorrow, so I will let you know what they find.

My view is ought to be sorted under warranty come what may - there's no way that a 2-year old aircon system should lose all its gas - if it has then there's clearly a fault on the system! The only other obvious fault is that it could be the compressor, which should also be fixed under warranty.

Good luck - I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow.

Maybe it's just to make more money, but many, many places recommend a regass of the system every year.

As such a "regas" is classed as a consumable and I don't know of any manufacturer that covers that.

A re-gas is a consumable yes. Most decent places would say every 2 years, which seems reasonable.

But if you've lost all gas in the system in that length of time, then it's clearly something else at fault.

Your fortunate matey!

My 54 Plate Classic doesn't even have aircon!

Do you have Climatic or Climatronic? With my Climatronic, it goes down to 16, then onto 'LO'.

just a dial with temp settings from 17 to 26 C

Would it be possible if I can get a hold of the digital switches and facia surround to up grade mine??

Short answer

No :)

Yours (similar to mine) is operated by a Barlan Cable (sure thats the correct name).

When i enquired about going from Climatic aircon to Climatronic i was quoted around £4k:eek: due to all the rewiring and electrical work involved

Ah but if you have all the parts required, there must be a connection behind the dash somewhere that you just plug into and bobs your auntie

Erm no

it involves changing the wiring loom fan control etc etc. It is not just a case of plug and play unfortunately. Trust me if it could be done cheaply i would have done it by now

Carl:thumbup:

I dont even have a compressor skippy, and theres only a recirc and rear window switch.

That's strange about the Classic, seeing as the majority of older Mk1 Fabias have it fitted! Seems a bit tight really....

Climatronic retrofit - as Carl says, massive job and just not economically viable. There's a raft of additional motors too, which seems to suggest there's a lot of different parts and design behind the dash than just a simple change of display :)

Update - car serviced today.

Have to say I was genuinely impressed, first of all, with Claybank Skoda. Service at a reasonable cost, decent courtesy car (57 plate Fabia) at no cost and came back cleaned and hoovered.

However, they did ring me this morning to say that they thought the aircon needed gassing. I told them I wasn't buying that due to the age of the car. Eventually they agred to regas it and test it, and if I wasn't satisfied with it they would not charge for it.

I got there to pick it up this afternoon and it was sitting on the forecourt clean, washed and nicely serviced - and hissing like an irate adder.

They had gassed the aircon and it was fizzing away into the atmosphere through a leak that they are now going to repair under warranty next week when the part comes in.

fair play to them for sorting it, but it made me laugh the way their first thought was "regas" (at the customer's expense!) when it was obvious even to a novice like me that there was a more significant fault.

Will let you know how the warranty repair goes next week!
