Dashboard driving me mad, i think!

Featured Replies

A few weeks ago i started getting a really annoying buzz almost metallic in sound from the dashboard. Unfortnately its intermittent, going over a bump stops it or starts it and it only occurs at 2000rpm or there abouts obviously because of the vibrations at these revs. It appears to come from around the headlight switch but ive had all those panels around there off including the door card and drove around and it still rattled! Any ideas?

Thanks

I've sometimes something similar and am not sure exactly what is vibrating, but have found that pushing my fingers between the window glass and the slightly risen part at the front of the inner trim quietens it. Nothing seems lose or out of place. It may be that there is sympathetic vibration of the glass at these revs, so anything which alters the places of touch of the glass will remove the vibration. Has anybody taken this further?

I have a couple of these niggles - the one mentioned above; my dash glass rattles slightly; and I think either the mirror cover on the passenger sunvisor or the headlining itself.

No ideas on how to fix, other than the standard "music volume = loud" method!

I mind the most annoying rattle I had came from the same area.

A finger pushed in the gap (Ooer Missus!) between dash and door seemed to stop it.

On further investigation I popped off the fuse box cover, went for a spin and nothing - problem solved - so have now bluetacked the fuse box cover shut and hey-presto rattle gone.

There are still plenty of other to hunt down and fix though! ;)

Seatbelt point things rattling against the handbrake surround is one of them, I bet ;)

I have a squeek/rattle in my car which has been there for since I owned it, not sure what it is and the music seems to drown it out but I'm one of these people that every car I have owned has had a squeek and rattle!

one is in the rear boot lid trim which i had to yank out of place to sort out a leaky rear wiper and clearly didn't replace properly
