Octavia Sunroof won't close - help!

Featured Replies

My 2002 Octavia 1.8T sunroof will not close. It's opened fully right now and turning the knob to close it does nothing. I've checked the fuses and both mentioned are not burnt out.

How can I close it? Is it possible to manually close it? Is there another fuse I'm missing out on?

Please help...

pull down the cover near the knob.it'll flop down, and theres a crank in there that will close it manually, before the rain comes ;)

Thanks man.....found it. Now I just need to figure out why the electrical method won't work. Fuses seem fine.

First thing that's gone wrong with it since I bought it. Great car.

The motor/gearbox unit broke in the wifes Tdi Octavia 1 after the drains blocked and filled the motor with water. Wouldn't work for love nor money despite power getting to it and all switches and fuses OK. There are lots of electronics inside the unit, not just a motor and a few gears as I expected.

In the end I bought a sedond hand replacement from Skospares at Poole, £40 off the shelf (they remove all the parts from breaking vehicles, no grovelling around in old cars). Dead easy to chance the motor, only two or three torx bolts if I remember right. With the cover pulled off to get to that hand crank lever you should see the three bolts and the wiring connector that need to be removed. I wouldn't recommend taking the motor apart yourself, I did and lots of gears fell out!!! The circuit board was corroded from water damage so still couldn't fix it.

Apparently if you press the rotary switch in while it is in the closed position for 10 seconds it fixes it,according to the manual, thats if the motor hasnt had it

Replaced 'know' (sic) with 'rotary switch' to make the post clearer.

A good reminder, that, and one worth knowing about before being stranded with the sunroof open. I have since found it and other good advice on pages 100 and 101 of the Owner's Manual.

Another thing to bear in mind with the OCty sun roof is that there are plastic guides that run along the side of the guide rails.

These are held on by a few (cant remember the exact number) of hex bolts, but the plastic can get pulled over them, and then get chewed up by the sunroof closing.

You then can't close the sun roof either with the control, or the crank as there is something physically obstructing it.

The only way then to do it, is to remove the sunroof cassette from the car, and close it out of the car. However, this means taking all the trim out from the window level up, including the headlining. (Not a quick job, particularly if it starts raining at the time!)

Hello, I recently had the same problem with my Octavia Scout (2015). Pano sun roof would not close, although it went through the close cycle fine but then slightly inclinded open at the end.

I checked the rails and edges to see if anything was blocking : nothing. I hoovered the edges for large bits of dust : nothing changed. Decided the next day to go to the Skoda dealership other side of town. Roof had to stay slightly open all night (thank god : no rain !). Used some clingfilm to make sure no insects or crap got in.

Next morning, tried the sun roof again : no avail. Started car up, drove 100 meters down the road, tried the roof again : IT WORKED !

Tried it again and again :  worked fine !

This is the second Skoda I've had and to be honest I think they're great cars. Only unfortunate thing are the electronics. It seems as though they're not quite up to standard and sometimes have some weird qwerks. Advice I can give on this fix : try all types of combinations before going to the dealership even if some things don't seem to mix and match. :)
