Which Dodo Wax?

Featured Replies

I normally use Collinute 476 on my Sprint Yellow Fabia vRS - I'm very impressed by it - but I've got a couple of sample pots of Dodo Wax so I thought I would give them a trial over the summer and then get the Colly back on for winter.

The sample pots I've got are....

  • Dodo Juice Banana Armour - a hard wax
  • Dodo Juice Orange Crush - a soft wax

What are the pros and cons of soft wax vs hard wax. Should I choose one or the other, or can I try layers of each, and if so which should go on first?

Your thoughts please

If you want to use it up, I'd go hard as the base coat for a bit of durability, then the Orange Crush on the top. See what the finish is like  I still need to be convinced about Dodo as a brand ;)

Depending on time available I'd then do a couple of coats of Orange, an hour apart.

Did you end up claying tonight?

Yes - I gave the car a wash down wih some IPA and then Virosol - and then after rinsing I used the soft Bilt-Hamber clay.

Had a quick test on a small section of the works van (10 years old and not very clean) and it removed loads.

Did my car and it didn't pick up too much - but thats more because there wasn't much to take off anyway I think.

If it stays fine on Saturday, the plan is paint correction with my Kestrel DAS-6 and the Menz polishes, followed by Poorboys EX-P sealant and then the Dodo Wax(es).

Like you I remain unconvinced about Dodo - although its more a feeling that they are overpriced rather than not very good. Will see what I think when its done.

Sounds like a plan

Current forecast doesn't look brilliant for the w/e, down here at least :(

But fingers crossed!

I've just been getting some Dodo, Hard Candy & Purple Haze. As Wardy said I went Hard (2 coats) then soft (2 coats) All at least an hour apart. Initial impressions are very good. Very easy to apply and remove. I don't know how it will work on Yellow but on Black the hard gives a crisp shine & soft gives kind of wet, deep look. I went for these two over the alternate wax I was going to get (Zymol Titanium) because they were out of stock on Zymol and at double the price of the Dodo I'm kinda glad I went Dodo.

Oh yea they smell really good too.:D

Here is a pic with it on mine, obviously no comparison to yellow but hey I'm pleased,

Nice finish, but still think Blackfire Midnight Sun takes some beating on Black Magic

Bit late on the response here but I would go with Wardys and JohnRS's recommendation's, get the hard layer on their first and build up your soft layer on top.............

Do you have some nice Spray Sealant to go on top as a final LSP as this will make the world of difference to the look...........:D

I posted after 11.00pm last night, so I think I can put up with a reply by 9.00am next day. I assume even detailing gods need their sleep ;)

I was going to seal with Poorboys EX-P after the polish stage. Can I also use that after the wax? Or I could try the Megs Ultimate Quik Detailer that I picked up in the US? Or would you suggest something else?

A run around the car with the Megs UQD will do the job nicely mate...........

I agree with that LLoyd, vRS_Si let me try some at Castle Combe and it was very greasy, too greasy in fact..............think I will stick with some other products............:o

The last time I did the Furby I used the following:

Sonus Green clay

megs #10 showcar glaze

Poorboys EX-P 2 coats

Banana Armor

Petes 51

Vic wax Concours

Sonus high gloss caranuba spritz

Then I busted the ankle and haven't touched it in 6 weeks :( I'll let you know how it washes , its sat covered in crap from the neighbours budleigh(sp) and hedge atm)

As for the Dodo banana Armor I was not that impressed by its longevity from when I first used it, and since having it a while it as broken down and separated quite considerably in the pot. If you like it I would advise buying the smallest pot available.
