Cooling fan staying on. Is this normal?

Featured Replies

noticed that the cooling fan stayed on today for about a minute after the car stopped havent notice it do it before ??? ( key out of ignition )

is this normal it was only a short journey!!!

mine does that sometimes, particularly on hot days or if i have sat in heavy traffic for a little while (including short trips to station to get swmbo etc) i wouldn't be worried about it...but i am not qualified to pass judgement 100% so if happens lots more get a mechanic to check over to be safe ;)

Happens from time to time. Must do it when it needs too

Hi westallc, I have MK1

Mine does this also and I do not worry about this, and so I think that it is normal here.

Soviet ;)

Mine does it,especially since i fitted FMIC.

The Owner's Manual warns that not only may the fan continue running for a while after switching off, but it may also start to run again suddenly if the coolant temperature increases due to heat build-up, or when the engine is hot and the engine compartment is heated additionally by strong sunlight.

I get this also, but if i hear it running i start the engine back on until it stops, it should cool a little better with the water running...

mine didnt used to do it but started after I had it remapped,

It could be something to do with the temp sensor gettin old???

no too sure but the engine never overheats.

she still runs ne way so I take it as fine,

billy
