Tyres

Featured Replies

I will be needing a set of tyres on my Octavia Scout Diesel in the next few months and was wondering if it would cause any problems fitting 225/45/17 instead of the 225/50/17 that came as standard as the price of the 45 profile is so much cheaper than the 50 which seems quite rare. I would be replacing the full set.:chicken:

You may find that it would throw your speedo out since the rolling radius will be different.

don't do it , it may only be a small chainge but it will affect your trip distance, abs, esp, speedo all by only small amounts agreed, but combined , who knows,

i chainged all four two month's ago and fitted michalin ,glad to get rid of dunlops !!!

Stick with 225/50/17 as the 45's will have a slightly harder ride. Plus as said above.

personally id say do it, if you work out the difference its really minimal

Anybody got recommendations of tyres available in 225/50/17 ? I was looking at all season tyres, and so far the Goodyear Vector 4 seem to fit the bill, but it is going to be a big bill :(

I like the look of the Quatrac tyres but they are not available in 225/50...

Try plugging some numbers into this tyre calculator

There's an almost an inch (22mm) difference in diameter (a fraction less if you can find a "big case" 225/45x17)

Your speedo will read even wronger than normal but you can fix that with VAGCOM/VCDS.

The engine will be revving quicker in top gear which will use more fuel but lower gearing might be a good thing if you use the Scout off-road a lot.

The shorter sidewall will be a bit more susceptable to damage but the car will feel a bit more planted.

Hows the price of 235/45x17 in the UK? Scout is 17x7 isn't it? So they should be OK
