Advanced winter preperation LSP's.. sealent/ wax

Featured Replies

I know we havent even had summer in the Uk just yet, unless of course those few days a week ago are it lol

anyhow i wanted to sound out if what i have will be ok to protect my octy over winter months or whether to go for the colly 476 or other for a better long lasting protection over winter...

so i have the following protection or LSPs:

Poorboys Ex-P sealant

Poorboys Nattys Blue hard wax

and just very recently and not used yet Dodo Juice Blue velvet and Dodo Juice red mist

now i have seen guides on using a combo of both sealants and wax (sealant first then wax), which i presume will give a better proection than just wax alone, but i do not here that many on here mention about using a sealant on their skoda (am aware of the differences in finish to the paint :) )

So what do all you detailing 'freaks' (said in the nicest of ways ;) ) think???

cheers

lee

thanks for the advice.. so you would reccomend the layering of the waxes over the sealant then to give better winter protection??

1st I'm no detailing expert. I use the sealant atop the polish and don't really see the need to put extra wax atop the sealant - but I'm sure others will be along shortly to advise / correct .

Quite a few of use sealants :)

Werkstat Prime Strong for me...

I see it as an important step, as after the polishing steps in a detail it seals in the work you've done to the paint, and gives you a good base upon which to apply waxes.

Because of its excellent protection and durability (I don't know of a more durable wax) I use Collinite 476. I would apply two coats of this, a couple of hours apart. Then I layer a more glossy and less durable show wax on top. At the moment I favour either Victoria Concourse or Blackfire Midnight Sun. This is of course optional in a 'winter protection' type scenario, as you're not really adding to the protection offered to the paint, you're just improving the appearance

In the winter protection sense, I would certainly recommend a sealant and then 476. This will easily see you through the winter months. You should see consistent beading of the paint throughout. If you start to see this breakdown when washing the car, re-apply another Collinite coat. But I've seen 9+ months of protection before; depends how harsh an environment your car's in and how many miles you're doing of course!

HTH,

Steve.

Worth a top up of red mist at each wash through the winter then??.. just to top up on the already applied 476..

And then use the Dodo juice blue velvet in summer for that added sparkle ;)

i think Elite have a good offer on atm for 476 too..

FK1000P is better value than Collinite 476 as it is a much bigger tin, is easier to use, gives a slightly better finish and protects as well if not better (and yes, I'm aware that is a bold claim!) :)

The rest of your plan sounds good, and Wardy pretty much hit the nail on the head...I'm willing to bet you could take his plan, substitute the 476 for FK1000P and you'd be laughing!

so EX-P on first (as i have this)

then colly 476 or the FK1000P - what is that though?

and then if i wish too a finishing wax on top of that

I think i got Werskat Prime Strong too - hmm i thought that was more a polish than sealant tho, i bought it from polished bliss i think and that was in wheel section am sure????

cheers for more replies :)

anyone got a link to it then... coz i cant say i have seen it anywhere before :o

and i seem to trawl the pages of car detailing supplies shops almost daily these days

Interesting thoughts about the FK1000p..............:)

Last year I used Klasse AIO followed by 3 layers of colli 476s and that lasted the whole winter through.

Year before was Megs stage 1, a suitable light polish (I forget which) and then two layers of turtlewax gloss guard then 2 layers of colli 476s. Again that lasted the winter out with no problems at all.

Link to FK1000p apoligies if it breaks the rules as its a link to a commercial site (to which i have no relationship though )

I am currently using Zaino Z2 on my BMP Superb which is also up there on longevity stakes , some people claim it will last 6 months , but we will see

Here is a solid black Skyline i used FK1000p on over poorboys blackhole

Colli 476s is also very good and i would certainly use that up before switching to FK1000p , but the FK will have the advantage on wheels as its a high temp sealant.

i dont yet have Colli 476, but can order some ;)

i have the following in no particular order lol... (combi of waxes and sealants)

Poorboys EX-P sealant

Werskat Prime Strong

Poorboys Nattys Blue

Dodo Juice Blue velvet

Dodo Juice red mist

any idea if the poorboys or werskat (or combo of both)could do the job of FK1000p

thank you by the way for all the info on combo's you have used

and soon a new shed just to house the car detailing products lmao

When i was living in the States , we had snow/salt/dirt for a period of 8 monthes. Monthly washing - paint cleaner and wax kept my Civic in a top condition ;)

I would pick any sealant you have and do the following.

- Werskat Prime (This is an all in one I think)

- Another coat of sealant when this has dried

- Two layers or more of colli 476s a few hours apart.

may give this a crack tomorrow, if its gunna be nice like today...

see how i go, but i know at the bk of my mind i really need to get my hands on a polishing machine and attack the correction work, but that might have to wait for now, do the best i can by hand, with a couple of polishes i have too hand (SSR2, and to lesser extent the Werskat i suppose)

thanks to all - its addictive this detailing mallarky ;)
