Thruxton Experience! Wow!!!

Featured Replies

I guess this is the right place to post this! :)

On friday I went down to Thruxton with a mate from work for there Italian Supercar Experience. This was my fisrt ever adventure to a track and was a little excited to say the least

This day was to consist of 3 laps in a Mazda MPS (instructor drives)

4 Laps in a Porsche Cayman

4 Laps in a Ferrari 430

and 4 laps in a Lamborghini LP640 :D

I had already done some research on the net and had discovered that Thruxton have just taken delivery of a Ferrari 430 Scuderia  So as soon as I arrived at the track I paid a tiny £20 upgrade to the Scud! Best £20 I ever spent!

The cayman was the first car and was quite good but was not really a "Supercar" but it was a very good car to learn in. although trying to listen to the instructor with a helmet on full of padding in a loud cabin is quite hard.

after this I was then expected to jump straight into the Ferrari... and all i can say is WOW!!! the single best thing I have ever done in my life! What a car, what a sound and what brute speed! Saddly I was cut a lap short but did manage to prove to them I had mist one as I had an in car dvd done  nicely when I had finished I got 2 extra laps in this spine tingling car! Which was great as buy this point I had started to learn the track!

After the Ferrari was the Lambo! which after the Scuderia just was not the same IMHO it was amazing and fast but just big and bulky also? I then went in and bought 3 laps in a 911 turbo as i had the need for speed lol, and that was a really, really amazing all rounder! Money well spent!

So after all this dribble I guess all i wanted to say is, if you have not been on a track experience and you love cars this is a MUST! There is nothing like doing a 150mph+ in a Ferrari Scuderia with a sound that blows your mind! It may look like a lot of money at first but when you have paid it and done the experience all you want to do is do it all over again!

Best day of my life so far!

Excellent stuff! Thanks for the write-up

I have often been told about these track days by friends who have been on them and say they are reigned back on the speed by the instructor and not felt the need to do them myself, not forgetting the the enormous cost for a few laps. I can guess that is not the case at Thruxton where they encourage you to go faster I hope.

I have a large amount of Tesco vouchers and will book something like this soon at Thruxton.

Has this day given you the urge to take your own car on a Trackday?

It kind of has and kind of hasnt? lol, its made me want to restore a car to take that on the track but I still am thinking of taking mine on track.

with regards to being reigned back on speed, I managed to get 2 red lights flash on the steering wheel in fifth gear at a 150+ mph :D the other laps were faster so I guess I got faster still!

My wife bought me one for a birthday present (I haven't done it yet) but looking into them, it seems to depend on the venue and organisers as to how you are allowed to drive. Thruxton must be a good one

I know Bedford autodrome is one where they don't like you driving too fast, they seem to sell those red letter day thingys for a couple of laps only.

Down at Thruxton they let you drive to the level they think you are at. You have a score card as you go round so each instructor knows your good and bad points before you drive the car!

But yes Thruxton is brilliant!!!

The only time I've driven someone else's car was round an old quarry with a guy called Vince Cobley of Protrax. I was driving his own Landy, and he didn't seem too bothered! Knowing that some places / companies rein you in seems a bit pants IMO if it's meant to be an 'experience'... :thumbdwn:

I drove it years ago in formula ford and renault cars. I seem to remember it's one of the (if not the) longest tracks in the UK. Took me about 2 weeks to get the smile off my face!!

Glad you enjoyed
