Blue smoke

Featured Replies

I've just taken the car for the MOT & It flew through even the emissions, but as he rev'd the engine getting It off the ramp there was a hugh cloud of blue/grey smoke come out of the exhaust that filled the MOT garage:(

It does It when Its been idling, then rev It, but It clears If the revs are kept on. I've never noticed it until today.

I took It somewhere directly after to have a look & give me some Idea of what may be the cause & they think Its either the valve stem oil seals or the turbo.

I've got It booked In for a cylinder leakage test & a turbo inspection, so I should find more, hopefully not sinister on Friday.

Its marvelous, I only said the other day Its the best my car has ever ran:rolleyes: I'll keep my mouth shut next time:)

lol Mate,

feel for you, could be the turbo leakin a bit? hope its somethin and nothin mate. how old is the car and what milage has she done?

billy

neither are going to be cheap :(

Its a 52 plate & the engine/turbo has only covered 49k. I always let things warm up & cool down & Its been serviced regulary.

I've got a universal IC fitted. I've not noticed any loss of oil either down the dipstick:confused:

I'm running Custom Code map, forgeTIP, Carbonio CAI & turbo back SS exhaust.

I had the TB off last week when I had It painted & It looked clean down the IC pipes.

mmm could pos be a weepin on a seal.

Hope its not serious

keep us posted mate

Will do:thumbup:

Thanks Billy.

valve stem oil seals

This was my thought when I read the symptoms. Hopefully an easy fix for you.

I've been told the head has to come off to change them, so It may be a bit out of my tech know how & my limited tooled up toolbox:O

I would hope its the turbo personally. You should be able to pick up a secondhand one or a recon quite cheap and you would not incur too much labour fitting it.

If Its the turbo then I would have the temptation of fitting something different than the K03s:rofl:

I'm sure the thought of SWMBO hanging you up by the danglies would change your mind :P

I will have to distort the truth;)

Anyway I'm expecting my 2nd child In 6weeks time so my danglies will become redundant after the birth:D

lol

Congrats on the little one mate.

perfect time to get the BT on there then lol

Unlucky Oggy, especially this close to the baby coming, but its a perfect opportunity for something a bit more substantial :D. Hopefully its nothing major, a piece of Chastsworth finest mud clogging something up maybe:rofl:

What options do I have regarding the turbo If there Is a problem with It & what prices am I looking at?

Where Is the best place to go to get a recon or new K03s turbo?

I am seriously thinking about going down the hybrid route. I'm not totally not sure If Its worth it though, but I have been told I can run one with the setup & map I have now, then upgrade the other parts needed to get the best from it, ie injectors, maf ect at a later date.

The JBS04 hybrid turbo will cost over £1000, Turbo Technics said today they don't do one for my model or the AUQ engine, but are going to look into It more for me & I've awaiting a quote back from Awesome.

I'm not bothered in going for the seriously larger turbo, even though It would be nice, as the price for getting a new manifold, downpipe & other bits needed to get It all running. I don't have the pockets deep enough for the big big turbo.

All this has come at the worst possible time:rotz:

I don't think there's ever a good time for things to go wrong with the car, is there?

feel for you matey - mine is p*ss*ing me off at the moment too...

Options:

direct replacement.

Hybrid k03s which is a k03 bored out with ko4 compressor wheels.

k04 001 which is reputed to be no better or even worse than the k03s. Saying that I have seen one example which gave good figures.

GT2X These are very hit and miss turbos some say they are great and some have real problems with the quality and performance. Ask Bengie about this one.

Finally the ko4 TT/s3 turbo (k04 023 or k04 025 iirc). A nice increase but as you know you would have to change mani oil and water lines etc.

If i were you Oz i would search various forums and make your own mind up.

I thought my turbo was the K03s turbo anyway? K03 on the 150bhp engine or earlier models? probably me thats got the wrong end of the stick again:rolleyes:

I'm not too bothered in the K04 TT/s3 conversion as I think It will be too much involved & probably quite costly for someone with hardly any tech knowledge in this subject, but I will look into It.

This Is If It is the unit Is at fault. I shall find more tomorrow.

Yes ours is a k03s, I think i worded it badly, hybrid is a k03s bored out with bigger compressor wheels.

Unless you can get some good quotes for the hybrid i would just shove a O.E turbo on.

I'm thinking that too about the OE unit. I just keep thinking It would be nice to have alittle more hp at some stage though:rolleyes:

If only I didn't like cars, I would be well off now:rotz:

surely if you look on ebay mate you might be able to puick up the turbo n lines and the Manifold? all for a good price?

then jus get the design 42 iirc DP adaptor or a complete one from america with cat. I have the links on my laptop if you want them?

tehn you jus need the Injectors and FPR then remap it. might be doable for around 1200 pos at a pinch lol?

all the best anyway mate.
