'Proper' Skype Handset

Featured Replies

Thinking of getting a proper handset, as I'm making quite a few USA/Canada calls at the moment. I already use Skype on my PC, so thinking why not make some cost savings on international calls to other Skype users, but not be tied to the computer :)

Perhaps not thinking of an integrated DECT/Skype model at this stage (nice as it would be but they seem pricey); looking perhaps towards a good quality dedicated Skype handset.

Anyone have one they'd recommend?

Cheers,

Steve

Thanks. Was thinking more along the lines of a DECT-type handset (in terms of size) but obviously something completely standalone.

Steve, I use a USB telco switch box. Skype Phone Adapter USB-RJ11

Sure it relies on your PC being on to accept the call (because you're running Skype on the PC), but the beauty is that it's blumbed in by my main DECT station so any other station can use it too!

Someone calls me on Skype, I get any of my 4 house DECT phones that ring and I speak to them as if it was a normal telephone call. :) Even get caller ID working too. :D

OK, it's a pain having the PC on, but for about £20 or however much it cost me, it was the cheapest, most flexible "enable skype on any handset" device I could think of

Interesting idea Xav, thanks

I could run Skype on my homeserver I suppose, and that's near the master BT socket, so could then hook upto my main DECT base station :)
