Octavia vrs II & double din head unit replacement

Featured Replies

Hi,

I had a 51 plate octy vrs until today, when i swapped it for a 2006 vrs ;)

now, i need to replace the head unit and i'm tempted by the few double din units but my safety concious brain wont let me buy one due to the fact that the majority have no removable security parts at all. Is this just a large invitation to steal? Maybe single DIN with a fascia plate is a better option?

I was also thinking of adding a sub and sticking with stock speakers? I usually rip everything out and start with the amps and components, i'm having trouble with motivation this time though :)

Any help appreciated :)

Most double din stuff should have anti theft coding.

Why would you want to lug a fascia about?

thats the thing, i've been scouring reviews for info on the security features, most appear to have none at all.

I think i'm going single din alpine instead now, the additional tray in the fascia will be useful for phone/ipod.

JVC 810X that I had in my Superb has a removable front, and a case for stowing the front in the boot or otherwise:

Having done a lot of digging into this, most do not have any security at all.

Some older factory double dins ive seen just have removable control panels, a lot smaller even than a single din fascia, but its coded to the stereo. They should use that type of idea with the newerr LCD ones

A removalable control panel didn't stop the scum bags breaking into my previous Octy II and ripping out my unit then the panel was with me and not in the car :(

You will always get someone who will nick stereos even if the whole fascia is off. Even if they cant use it, you still lose out. The way of the world unfortunately. But better to have at least some security than none at all.
