What to do with old engines/gearboxes?

Featured Replies

Slight dilemma arising from my 240z project..

Took the L24 engine out and the gearbox...but I now have the dilemma of lacking on space and not sure what to do with them. Can I just take them down the local tip?

I've offered them free on a Z car forum but everyone just wants to pick off parts, no-one wants the whole block.

Should I just take it up the scrappy? If so....how the hell do I get them there? Gearbox is just about liftable with two people...but the block itself comes to around 300lbs..loathed to put it in a car to take it there...only to find I can't get it out without an engine crane.

Any help on how to dispose of this most inefficient useless lump of engine...gladly received :)

Is this the kind of thing I could get the council to come and collect? (long shot i know!)

thanks in advance

ring the local scrappy to see whether they want them first , then get them to collect them the next time they are out picking up a scrap car

ebay. 1p start with no reserve and collection only or delivery at buyers cost :)

You clearly don't live in Doncaster, anything metal that isn't locked away goes walkies in minutes. I left an old washing machine in the front garden (council to collect free next day), wrong, already gone within 2 hours!

Try engine rebuilders if the engine is servicable as they might make you an offer for the block.

Freecycle?

Or maybe find out which other vehicles are compatible with the engine and post on their respective forums?
