June "main" wash on yegnold's Fabia

Featured Replies

Well I've decided that every month or two I'm going to give the car a "proper" wash where I snow foam at full concentrate, and do some nice cleaning stuff. Here's my process:

1. Pressure wash all loose dust and dirt off the car

2. Apply snow foam at full concentrate over the whole car.

3. After dwelling for 3-5 minutes (too hot and will dry on!), rinse off with pressure washer

4. Snow foam at 25% concentrate over the whole car

5. Using some expensive megs car wash and the two bucket method with a grit guard in each bucket, wash the car with a mix of car wash + the snow foam that is again dwelling on the car. Do this panel by panel and rinse as I go along.

6. Using megs last touch and a waffle weave drying towel, I dry the whole car and park it in a shaded area.

7. I then apply AutoGlym "High Definition" wax on to the whole car and leave to dry for 10 minutes.

8. I then buff off all of the wax, sit back and admire my work.

The day before I had removed all of the wheels and cleaned with just normal megs car wash and a wash mitt, followed by a quick rinse and a thin coat of normal paint wax. Looking to buy some wheel sealant soon but not yet!

Not exactly detailing level, but it does make the car look very good indeed afterwards and I'm pleased with the results. Here are the photos you're waiting for:

Thanks for all of the comments!

Well observed on the Skoda showroom front Jason.. :D

The cats do like to lie on the bonnet and the roof.. this makes for a not-very-happy Ed when they scratch the paint, though they are quite light pawed generally :)

nice work and looking good..... and red is best :)

need to have those wheels done in anthracite imo

I quite like them standard to be honest - won't be long and us standard-wheeled vrs owners will be in short supply ;).

I could always buy an anthracite set though... hmmmm

agreed....... silver always looks good...especially when clean....

with all these vRS owners on aftermarket wheels, there should be quite a few sets of standard wheels out there...

can see a set of silver ones being bought too ... when funds allow .. :thumbdwn:

looks good Ed - I'm pretty sure mines not even the same red!!

but no time to give the LE a going over too?!

Nice to see the alloy centres were still attached after a good cleaning! :D

The camera is a bit dodgy, the red is actually a lot richer than that and it looks better than the pictures suggest - I promise!

We did give the LE a going over afterwards but I wasn't going to wax a car that isn't mine - my arms were knackered after doing my own thanks!

Alloy centres have been faultless so far - no sign of water creeping behind or anything despite pressure washer use 2 or 3 times since. Might be something to do with my ring of superglue though ;)

But remember, anthracite wheels are gay plus they look perpetually dirty :)

yeah possibly the camera combined with bright sunlight makes it look lighter - although i find a covering of soot and general dirt does the trick to darken mine up!

oh to not live 3 floors up without an outdoor socket or hose pipe!

glad your happy with the alloy centres buddy but yes i'm sure its all down to the fitment technique!! :P

Nice paint, but I reckon you need the door handles colour coded.

Nice work and it looks like you have a similar problem to me, living on a dusty farm?

Hard work to keep on top of it but it had to be done.............

Cat certainly seems to like your work, either that or it likes being on camera?

WIthin about two hours there was a thin layer of dust over the whole car, thankfully it comes straight off with a simple rinse but it is slightly irritating at times. Also the transition between washing, drying and polishing/waxing can be tricky, especially if it is windy... :D
